  • Is there such a thing as Healthy Quesadillas? If so please tell me how to cook them the healthy way, Thanks
  • I have quesadilla for dinner sometimes, but mine is pretty basic:

    1 whole wheat tortilla - 130 calories
    1.5-2 slices of cheese - 150-200 calories

I cook mine in a tiny amount of olive oil or a very small amount of butter, or I just stick in in the microwave and do it fold-over style (rather than using 2 tortillas and having a round quesadilla). Then I have a big side of veggies or dip it in a cup of tomato soup.
  • Depending on what kind of eating plan you're following there are healthier options. There are the lower carb tortillas, and you could use a lesser amount of cheese. Use skinless boneless chicken breast, green, yellow, red peppers and onion. Salsa for dipping is a better option than sour cream, but if you allow for it the sour cream is an option too. You can broil the assembled quesadilla in the oven, and of course precook the chicken in the oven with appropriate seasoning.
  • Oh okay thanks, So instead of pan frying them I should put them in the oven,I will do that from now on
  • I tend to use regular tortillas or flat out wraps, depending on my budget for that month and use either regular or reduced fat cheese along with some veggies like onions, spinach, bell peppers to add bulk. Any meat would work along with some beans, either mashed or whole.

I don't like microwaving since it gets soggy and wet so I just dry-fry in a pan until it's brown and crispy to my preference. No need for oil or anything.
  • Sometimes for lunch I will take a wheat (taco) size tortilla and add 1/4 cup of cheese and microwave it. Then I roll it up and eat it with a side salad.

At home I add diced onion, green peppers, mushrooms, and tomato with the cheese and cook it on the griddle pan. No oil or spray on the pan.
  • onion, green peppers and mushrooms sound good as a quesadilla
  • I used to make a 5 layer cheese quesidilla for my bf and I, omg it's delicious, but now when we have a craving for it, we use whole wheat tortillas, and I just saute cubes of chicken breast with tomato, green pepper, some pre-made fajita seasoning, water, let it simmer about 10 minutes and put that in the tortilla with some cold lettuce, it's quite yummy and filling, no added fat at all.
  • We pan fry in a mist of oil and use two corn tortillas (50 cals each), reduced fat cheese and plenty of veggies. I probably eat quesadillas twice a week or so.
  • I make brown bean quesidillas using whole wheat tortilla, a sprinkle of kraft fat free cheddar, chopped onions and a little fat free sour cream. I bake it for about 10 minutes each side. YUM
  • As a snack I do the same as Munchy with corn tortillas, but if it's a dinner I just count the calories for a large whole wheat tortilla and lowfat cheese, but then fill that sucker up with endless veggies and dip in salsa. So good!
  • I make quesadilla for one:

La Tortilla Factory low carb whole wheat tortilla (large size)
    2 oz. grilled chicken, shredded
1/4 c. fat free shredded cheese
    Sriracha sauce (to taste)

I put in one tortilla and fold it over. Then I put in my George Foreman grill until the cheese melts.
  • I make them in a non-stick pan, no oil of any kind...lots of veggies and chicken and go a bit light on the cheese.
  • Angie ~ How do you get them crispy if you dont use oil? Just curious

The hot pan makes them crispy - you don't really need the oil at all. I do use a drop of oil, but it works just fine without!
