Excuse me, WTF scale?!?!?

  • I'm sure you remember how I posted about my husband leaving me an obscene amount of pizza.

Well I only ate pizza that one night. Since that night I went right back on my diet, strict as always!

But since that one pizza night, according to my scale I've GAINED 8lbs. It's been showing me gaining a pound or so a day.

I am NOT anywhere near time for my period, so no reason for bloating at all.

I feel like I can actually see those 8lbs when I look down. Even some of my normally pale stretch marks are a bit reddish and upset looking.

I've gotten so upset and worried by this I've even gone so far as to put bells on, and tie shut all my cabinets and my fridge to ensure I wasn't sleep eating. Really stupid of me because I always have the same amount of food, there for I couldn't be sleep eating.

What the **** is wrong with my body?!?!
  • It could be water retention from the salt!!

I have this issue where one day I eat normally (not normal a cheat day!) and it will take a few days for the weight to come down slowly. If I'm not active or drinking enough water it takes longer. I know it's hard to ignore the scale but if it's just this one day and you're eating properly it'll come down!! don't worry!!
  • But gradually gaining 1lb a day over the course of 8 days? 8lbs total I mean, I'm just flipping out, NOTHING I'm doing is bringing the numbers down, I'm drinking a butt-ton of water and still nothing >_< UGH
  • Mizeria: That's so odd that one night of pizza would reek so much havoc on your body! I believe it though, I can't eat red meat without it staying with me for weeks on end messing up my scale.

Hang in there, your body will let go of it eventually.
  • Is it possible that your scale is broken?
  • Weird. I was going to say water weight from salt but 8 days is too long. Are you feeling okay and all things are otherwise normal? Very odd.
  • Any new medications? Over the counter even? Ibuprofen messes with me.
  • Scales are They go up and down for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with fat gain and loss. And yet we are their slaves and obsess over them and analyze to death...

When I can be more sane about it, I try not to fret over those kinds of gains... give it a bit and check again.

Because the scale is trying to get you off your weight loss game...
  • Nothing new at all. No meds, I feel fine etc.

That scale had better not be broken, it's 2 weeks old.

This morning I didn't gain anymore, I'm stuck at where I was yesterday. Which is still 8lbs higher than what I was before the pizza.
  • Hang in there. It will come back off -- likely all at once. It can take 2 to 3 days for me to show all the weight gain from eating something that is off plan, high in sodium and carbs, and over my calorie limit. So, your body may adjust more slowly. It sounds as though it's stopped with the water retention. Just give it a few days. Sorry you're going through this -- it is frustrating beyond words!
  • My two cents. 8 pounds in one week? I would agree that that is not terribly normal, and you would know what's normal for your body. I can see up to 4/5 pounds MAX, even if you're stuffing your face silly. So, I think it's either a. defective scale, b. inflammation due to virus or other ilness, c. possible wheat/gluten sensitivity. For me, when I gain a lot all at once like that, I'm usually about to get sick, whether viral or intestinal issues.
  • I really hope I'm not getting sick >_< then again I'd be okay with that as it would tell me why the heck I've gained like this >_<

This particular scale worries the crap out of me. There's a good 20lb difference between what it says and what every other scale my husband steps on says so that's always lovely.
  • Don't stick with something that:
"worries the crap out of me. There's a good 20lb difference between what it says and what every other scale my husband steps on says so that's always lovely. " ... don't sign up for that mental mess. Take it back if it's two weeks old.
  • Is the scale on a level spot on the floor? (Have you tried it elsewhere in your house?)
  • It's the most level spot in my house right now. My apartment building settled oddly decades ago and the spot it's in is the most level. Anywhere else that I put it all 4 pegs aren't touching the ground.

It's a cheap $20 weight watchers scale. I'd hate to tell my husband to take it back and get another one. I feel grateful just to have this one because he refused to buy one for so long >_<
