Ran my first race!!

This was my first ever race, a half Marathon trail race held a few hours away from me. It was a challenging first race, and after I signed up for it, I was very nervous and excited. It was very much uphill, but the scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect! I finished at a very slow 3:18, and I was in last place, but I couldn't have cared less. Around a hundred people entered many were very serious racers who came out to have a bit of fun. There was even a guy there that had competed in the Leadville 100 (I dream of doing ultras, and maybe even that race someday in the distant future). The aide stations were manned by the Army Reserves and boy those guys were amazing. It seemed like they could predict when I needed water better than I could. When I got thirsty, I found a new water in my hand, and they were very positive and gracious. I even had one of the guys run the last seven miles with me, and that was just amazing. I am so glad I picked this race to be my first, even though it was so challenging and my sweet husband got amazing pictures and videos of the surroundings and me racing.

I just wanted to share my momentous occasion. Attached is a photo of me crossing the finish line!

  • A half marathon trail race for your first race? Wow, you are insane (in that fantastic, inspiring, amazing way that insanity can be). We don't even know each other and I'm incredibly proud of you. Way to go!!!!

    Ditto. That's awesome!

That sounded like such a fun run w/ cool people. Was it recommended to you or did you hunt it out on your own?

My ultimate running goal is to do a half marathon. I have a while to go though - only at 3 miles now. How often do you run?
  • That's awesome, way to go!!!!!
  • Wow! again wow!
  • How inspiring!! I can't wait for that moment, congrats
  • Congratulation on the half marathon--regardless of your speed--you did fantastic. Keep it up--and one day you may be considered an ultra-marathoner. The Leadville 100 is one of the toughest in the nation. Really there aren't many runners that take that one on. But they come from all over the world to try it.

I was in Leadville in July watching one of my friends do the Leadville 50 mile run. She did great, and finished about an hour before the time clock ran out. I suspect one day she is going to want to try the 100?

    Congratulations again!
  • Wow Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! Good job and don't think twice about your speed. You did it girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
