Help Figuring out Calories in this Muffin recipe!

  • I know these banana nut muffins are more of a splurge than a low-cal option, but does anyone have any idea how many calories would be in one of these muffins from the Food Network?

I'm disappointed that the Food Network did not include calorie information. I'm tracking my calories in the Lose It app.

Thank you so much! What do you all do when you don't know the calories of something?
  • I go to Spark People's online recipe calculator. Works like a charm

  • As it happens, I just made banana nut muffins for my daughter's preschool last night. My recipe is similar except 1/2 less sugar and 1/2 cup coconut oil instead of 3/4 cup butter, and 1 cup walnuts instead of 1/2 cup pecans. 12 of my muffins are 297 calories each (not that I'm going to eat one). I'm guessing Tyler's have to be in the 350 range. (but it looks like psychic already did the exact calculations!)
  • Hi!

I have just returned to calorie counting.

I use calorieking.com all the time. I really trust the information on that website because it's founded by a registered dietician.
  • I wasn't aware of the online recipe calorie calculators previously, so I'll definitely be using those in the future!

I've just been doing it the 'old school' way. I look at the nutritional information on the ingredients and then calculate how many calories there are then divide by the yield of the recipe.
I have also tried googling "vegan" and "low calorie" versions of certain recipes to help give me a better idea of healthier or low calorie ingredient substitutions, and depending on what I have at home or can/like to eat I then combine the recipes to my liking.
The first batch may be a bit of a 'test round', which may take a bit of tweaking, but altering recipes this way has worked well for me.
  • Hi,

I'm counting calories and just started 3fatchicks again . To get the calorie count you divide the energy/kilojules by 4.184. To make it easy you just divide by 4.

On my iPad I downloaded a converter, which does it automatically for you which is another option. I'm assuming you can download on the computer as well.

I find it an easy way to work ou t the calories. Hope this can help you
