Shirataki Noodles?

  • I had heard about these before but could never really find them except in health food stores, and they were really expensive. Well I just found out about Nasoya Pasta Zero shirataki spaghetti, and it's zero points, and is sold at the Sweetbay in my town (which is a mainstream grocery store)! I'm looking forward to checking out how much it costs because that would be an awesome way to have some pasta guilt free.

Does anyone eat Shirataki noodles? are they good?
  • It's 0p+ if you only eat 1/2 the bag, it's 1p+ for the whole bag, which is what I eat! LOL

Make sure you rinse them VERY WELL. I'm talking 2-3 minutes under running water. Also, dry them with a towel or paper towel to get all the extra moisture out.

If you look at the Hungry Girl website, there are some great recipes for them. I like the garlic chicken one.
  • I've eaten them before and definitely follow what Keli10801 said, rise and dry them well. I also dry sautee them in a frying pan and heat them up and then add whatever you want to them.

They are good and in my experience have the texture of a al dente ramen noodle. The only downside of the noodles are that they made me a little bloated because they are all fiber. So just be warned!
  • Cool thanks for the tips! I probably won't eat them very much but I'm looking forward to trying it!
  • You can also order them on Amazon. I have tried them -- I liked them "OK" which is they'll do in a pinch. I have found that a little of them goes a long way. I probably made the mistake of getting excited about the thought of eating a whole lot of the noodles because I LOVE pasta and miss it, but found that you need a LOT of sauce then -- or at least I did. I might try them again -- some of my lack of excitement might have been from not using them in the right recipes. I also use carb-nada noodles that I get from netrition.com. Certainly more carbs and calories, but a good alternative for regular pasta if you budget for it.
  • I couldn't get past the smell...
  • I soaked some the other night in hot water & then rinsed with hot water a couple of times, it got rid of the smell much quicker than cold water does. Then I threw them in with some just cooked very good steak, a LOT of garlic & ginger, some soy sauce & moved them around a bit. About 220 cals in total but really good. These are definitely better with strong Chinese/Thai/Malaysian flavours IMHO. My few attempts at Miracle Noodle Spag Bol have not been fabulous..
  • Oh god - I followed everyone's suggestions...he||, I rinsed them under nearly boiling for 30 minutes and then pan dried them. I mixed them with enough tomato sauce to kill someone, too.

IMHO, it was like eating rubber bands. I couldn't choke them down. Two bites and I called it quits.

If you ever decide to try them again, do it without the red sauce! For some reason they just don't work well with red sauces. They are great with an olive oil and garlic sauce or alfedo/cheese type sauces.
