St Patricks Day

  • Seeing that St Patricks day is coming, just wanted to find out if Corned Beef is allowed in Phase 1?

If you make sure to trim ALL visible fat before you cook it and make sure there's no hidden sugar in the seasoning, you can have a little of the corned beef - but it's a naturally fatty cut of beef so personally I wouldn't have a full 8oz portion of it.

Technically corned beef is NOT phase 1 appropriate, but there's no reason to avoid it completely for one special occasion.
  • Thank you scorbett1103! This sight is sooooo helpful!
  • Luck of the Irish Green smoothie/shake!

    My version (had for breakfast!):
    WLS Cocomint Creme shake/pudding
    1-2 c. spinach
    8 oz water
    ice cubes
    Blend in blender

    Alternate #1
    1 pk IP Wildberry Yogurt
1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves (deduct this from your 4 cups a day veggies)
    handful of ice
Put all ingredients in a blender and mix well. Enjoy this filling smoothy, changes the color but not the taste of the wildberry yogurt and you have 1/2 cup of spinach in!!! Enjoy

    Alternate #2
Luck of the Irish Green Shake (Ideal Protein AZ)
Vanilla ReadyMade or Vanilla Drink Mix (prepared with Water)
    Ice cubes
A few drops of green food dye (or use spinach!)
Mint Extract or SweetLeaf Peppermint Drops to taste
Blend and serve with Fresh Mint Garnish!!!
  • Oh Lisa I have to try the Shake !

We Love St Paddy's Day in my neck of the Woods !

My house is decorated with Saint Patricks's Day decor like people decorate for Christmas!
And they Dye the River Green here too!

  • Gonna try a different green shake today (prefer less sweet in the mornings)

Then into the pot goes the fat-trimmed corned beef with leeks, rutabaga and cabbage (and a few carrots for DH). I got a brisket from the butcher and asked them to trim the external fat for me. I looked up how to naturally brine for corned beef so we're all set with no additives!

We have a busy basketball-oriented weekend so I'm cooking it today.
  • If you haven't bought corned beef or brisket yet, here is a lower fat option for this year's St Patty's Day celebration.
I wish they would have put this out a week ago!
DH may get the brisket and I may start over for me!

    I'm adding rutabaga and leeks
