What do you eat when you've got the flu/a cold??

  • hey everyone,

i am now down and out with the flu the second time in as many months. i really need some food suggestions here--nothing really tastes good,no real appetite and my throat aches so just not feeling roasted veggies and such!
what do you eat when you're feeling like a dump truck hit you ?
  • Chicken soup with garlic in it. So comforting and also supposed to help you get healthy faster. Be sure you also drink lots of water too.
  • Thanks Jandaman, I'm going through the same right now...no appetite...super sore throat...ugh! I've been having honey/lemon tea, I think honey is a no-no on SB...but, it sure makes my throat feel better. I need to make some chicken soup with my leftover fryer chicken...need to find the energy first, though! ha ha
  • When my throat is especially raw, a nice cold smoothie is so soothing. And as an added benefit, you get a healthy dose of fiber and vitamins to help you get well again.
  • I agree with the soup idea, I also enjoy yogurt when I have a sore throat.
  • thanks! i find it so hard to stay OP when i'm sick like this...just want to curl up with grilled cheese sandwiches & alphabet soup...

jyoyo78tea and honey is a blessing (even though honey is a no-go)

ruthchicken ginger&garlic soup is on the menu (when I can get out of bed)

cottagei wish i had a blender to make smoothies...sounds so nomnom to me right now
  • smoothies are good - broth - SF Jello. That's my staple when ill!
  • Hot and sour soup (there's a SB friendly recipe here, I believe) always helps me when I have a sore throat. Or maybe some low sodium chicken broth w/ some green onions and celery tossed in for flavor???

Question, though, for those of you talking about using honey...why not swap out the honey for agave so you stay on plan??? I personally detest honey so I don't have that issue...but I was just curious.

Honey has been used for years as a medicinal remedy for a lot of ailments and it really does work. I'm not sure if agave has those same benefits.

    Blech. I'd rather die.
