  • Hello all and welcome to the [slightly delayed] NOVEMBER blog! Please blame that jerk Sandy...it's been a long week in NJ and I have to say running really helped me stay sane. I ran every day Wed-Sat. after the Hurricane assessing damage & clearing my head & then at the gym once they got power so I could run on the treadmill & follow the news. Running is truly one of the best forms of exercise because you can do it ANYWHERE! Thank goodness for that.

Still reading October page now that I have electricity again [woohoo!] but quick shout out to BECK - way to go on your half marathon!!!!

Kate27 - great improvement time for your 10k's!

I hope everyone on this page/blog etc. & your families are safe.
  • Can I join in? If I don't stop talking about running all the time on facebook, my friends are all gonna be sick of me.

I just started running at the end of July, with the goal of the Disney Princess Half Marathon at the end of Feb. After really struggling all summer & not enjoying it at all, I'm really loving it now. Unfortunately, Nov is off to a rough start. I had a great 6.5 mile run on Friday, but on Sat, I stepped in a hole & hurt my ankle. It's feeling much better, but I'm taking a few days off, just to be safe. I've got a 5K coming up in 11 days & a 10K in 17 days. I'd rather be healthy and ready for them than push myself this week and end up really injured.

So far on my race schedule, I've got:
    11-16 - Dollywood 5K
    11-22 - Thanksgiving 10K
12-9 - Santa Hustle, haven't decided if I want to try to half marathon or just to the 5k
    1-1 - New Year's Day 5K
2-24 - Disney Princess Half Marathon
    4-6 - Cooper River Bridge Run 10K

I'm tentatively thinking about training for a full marathon after the half. I've got a friend that just ran his first marathon, and it has me wanting to do one.
  • Count me in lm3898! Glad to know you are safe.

I'm on the West Coast so I can't point to Sandy for being MIA on this thread. Just terribly busy. I'm also doing the November exercise thread with a goal of 50 miles for the month. Glad to hear that you were able to keep up with your running amidst all the chaos and calamity.

Nikel1979, your running schedule looks great and just enough to keep you on track and steadily running. I find having a race and/or running goals to be a huge help in getting me to lace up my shoes and hitting the pavement.
  • Ran beautiful 10k route through the fields the cottonwoods and willows are so brilliant right now....my legs still seem tired from this last week. Wed. 13.3, Sat.6.2 (in sand hills)Sun2 1/2 miles hike 900 ft climb. And today 6.2. Guess I will take a break tommarro and just work and go to Exercise class it's Interval Night.
I did 89 miles for Oct. and 4,500 ft gain.

Im3898 glad you made it through the storm and kept your sanity with running!
Nickel take it easy on that ankle, sure you'll be ok don't push too hard too start
Curvey I am sure you will make you 50!
    Everyone else keep on trotting!
  • Hey I am going to join in!! I seem to pick up running every few years but I am now running longer than I have in over a decade and I really really hope I stick with it this time. There is another lady in my neighborhood that loves to run so I am hoping she will be my inspiration to stick with it for life.
  • I'd like to join too! I've been running since last March. I finished my first half marathon in September and my miles have been decreasing ever since. I need a goal I'd like to run at least 33 miles for November.
  • Welcome Funsize and LaurelRenae!
  • I am going insane! I haven't run since Friday. It's rainy, so I'm going to head to campus early and try a nice & easy short, slow run on the indoor track. Hopefully I can get a mile or two in. My ankle feel fine. If it starts to bother me at all, I'll skip the running and hop on a bike.
  • I'm down! Me and my fiancé will be doing our first 5k on thanksgiving day, we are so so excited! We have never done one but we've been training and finished c25k, and we started 5k210k and by the time of the race will he in week 3 of that. I'm so excited plus I get to share this with him.
  • I got a 5 miler last night. Not bad its my first day back after a four day weekend. It felt good and I ran harder than I have in the past few weeks. I was too pooped to lift after that.
I am so sad I cannot run the turkey trot this year...my plane doesnt land in time.

Beck - That was awesome time!
Dollylala - That will be fun...i wished I had a BF to run with me
Nikel - You have a good schedule!! I am running the princess half mary too!
  • Nice work everyone! Ran 4.5 miles in the COLD yesterday but hardly felt it - thanks Under Armour cold gear LOL. Debating whether or not to sign up for Key West Half marathon in January...

The dolly - careful - races are ADDICTING!!!! Enjoy your 1st!

Laurel - what kind of goal are you trying for? I sometimes plan out my runs/routes for about two weeks so I have a set goal in mind...
  • Greetings, lovely runner chicks! Hope everyone's day is off to a great start.

Yesterday, ran 3.5 miles after being off for a week. In the interim I kick boxed and lifted which has left me in that consistent "good" sore state. The run went well, and I was happy to stretch out my muscles, but at times my legs felt like tree trunks

Nikel, hope your ankle is feeling better. I've had the same experience and it left me seeing stars. Luckily no permanent damage. You're wise to stay off of it and take good care of yourself. It's no fun breaking your momentum but if it's to heal properly, you haven't lost anything.

devadiva, 89 miles in October?!!! Fantastic! May I ask how long it took you to work up to that kind of mileage?
  • Curvey: I started running last Oct.and mostly walked a 5k by the next monty I was able to run the 5k with no stopping not fast.....I kept with it and by the first of May {my 60th birthday month} I started running 6.2 miles with no stopping {a 10k} So to celebrate my birthday I ran 10...10ks that month.
Since then I just run whatever...We don't have many races on dirt or trail..so I have to just make my own up. Last Wed I did my 1 st 13.3 mile run.
I usually can run 3 days a week sometimes 4. If I don't have alot of time I do 3.2 miles, I do alot of 6.2 and 8 mile when I have more time. And once in awhile farter.
I want to run for the JOY of running and not make it tooo much work!
I never in my life ran anywhere except the bathroom.before that!
  • My easy 1-2 mile indoor run turned into a 3 mile run a full minute faster than my previous best pace. Whoops. It felt easy though, so it still counts, right? My ankle felt fine, and it still feels fine.
  • I'm going to a conference but I'm going to keep running while I'm gone. Doing the last race of the season, I think, on Dec. 1 -- a 5k. I think I might try for 28ish minutes. That's 9 minute miles, right? It seems like I can do that.

    Welcome to the new runners!

I'm getting a little bit of my intensity back. I ran fast on Tuesday, about 2.8 miles on my 5k pace. Trying to do at least 5 miles most days.
