How do you stay motivated over the weekend?

  • I agree with much of what has already been said here.

Two things seem to really help me when the weekend approaches, one of which is to always plan ahead. I'll admit, it took me awhile to make this a habit. For years I would just sort of "figure it out as I go" when it came to eating on the weekend, or at a party, or a holiday dinner, etc. But...it has started to become a habit for me to mentally do a check list type of thing, where I plan out my calories prior to the event. I can usually keep it together and not overeat, but in the event I DO mess up, this brings me to the second thing which is helpful to me, which is:

Weigh twice a week (no more), and ONLY on Friday, and Tuesday. The reason this helps me is because if I've been doing good all week, I, like so many others here, need some sort of validation, and at times the only kind of validation is from the bathroom scale! So, after a good week, I'm going to weigh on Friday and more than likely, be happy with what I see. This alone is usually enough to propel me through the weekend. But, if I do sort of mess up on Saturday night for instance, I've still got Sunday and Monday to get my act together, hopefully so that Tuesday's weigh-in will at least not show a gain. I know that weight naturally fluctuates, but if I know in my heart that I've done ok over the weekend, it's easier to keep on keepin' on and not let the train jump the track
  • I tend to do better when I eat out...its when I am home all day that my best intentions get thwarted. Working from home has its benefits and drawbacks...like being close to the fridge all day!
