  • Hello! First post here!

I have an interest right now in getting in better shape, and I've done Jillian Michael's Last Chance Workout this past week. I like it a lot. I'm looking for some similar videos but here's my odd request: I can't do routines that involve a lot of jumping and such, because I live on the second floor of an apartment building. I am very anxious about someone coming up and complaining because it sounds like an elephant stampede up here. No, just a fat girl doing jumping jacks.

Any suggestions? I'm definitely a beginner and very out of shape. The Last Chance Workout is good in the sense that for my current ability, it's hard but it's not impossible. However, I just feel like I'm losing out on a lot of calorie burning as a lot of the cardio intervals involve jumping jacks and other moves that would have my feet hitting the floor with a lot of force.

    Thanks!
  • I'm so glad someone asked this; I have the same preoccupation!

I've been doing a video this one certain days for lower body. It gets me sweating eventhough it's not intense cardio: fitbottomedgirls dot com /2012/03/the-ultimate-hips-bum-and-thigh-workout-by-amanda-russell/

This for abs (as best I can!)

And then using the Nike Training app workouts for warm up/cardio (I like doing walking lunges and high knee kicks). I need to figure out more upper body/arm/back and warm up/cardio options though!
  • I also have the same issue- I tried 30 day shred, and made it through about 10 minutes before I started to feel bad for my neighbors. Now I've given up on videos and go hiking or walking instead.
  • Try the Leslie Sansone videos. Mostly walking. Some have jogging, but she encourages those that can't do high impact (like me) to just walk briskly. They helped me lose 40 pounds!
  • I checked one of Leslie Sansone's videos and I like it! I can't do jumping because of my bad knee so I think the Walk-away the Pounds fit me perfectly. Thank you AnnieDrews
  • Try a bellydance video. I have one that I do. Can"t think of the name right now, but I think anyone will do for the no jumping.
  • Have you tried Biggest Losers Weightloss Yoga? I have the same concern that my downstairs neighbors will complain about my doing jumping exercises.
  • What about Jillian Michaels Banish Fat Boost metabolism. Or The Biggest Loser Cardio Max
  • As suggested, the Walk Away The Pounds videos are great quiet, low impact options. However, since I've started DDP Yoga I can't stop talking about it! Basically, it is NO impact cardio, your heart rate will fly through the roof just standing still. It's amazing and I highly recommend giving it a try!
  • I have to vouch for Walk Away The Pounds as well. When I first heard of it I thought it would have been too easy but I was wrong. It's more than marching in place, you do arm raises, kicks, hamstring curls, knee lifts too. Also you can add light handweights or a resistance band for strength-training while you get cardio.

Even though I am in good shape now and its low impact it's been very effective for me. I still get a good sweat going every time I use it.

That DDP Yoga video from above sounds great. I have to look into it.
  • I agree with Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds series for a quieter indoor workout. Or you could look into yoga (I really like Fat-Free Yoga with Ravi Singh and Ana Brett) or pilates (Gaiam make some inexpensive dvds with Mari Windsor or Ana Caban) dvds. Or even see about getting some weights or kettlebells and getting into strength training either with books, online routines or by looking up strength training dvds.

Jillian Michaels' Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and the Biggest Loser Cardio Max are both excellent cardio workouts but they both involve jumping if that's a problem for you.
  • I have recently tried Hip Hop Abs by Beachbody's Shaun T. I would classify it as a light to moderate exercise routine based on simple dancing-like moves, mostly for cardio. I don't think that it contained any real jumping either.
  • Another Walk Away The Pounds vote for me....there's a pilates one that I loved.
  • How about good ole' Tae Bo, there is a lot of kicking and punching, it gets your heart rate up, but not a lot of jumping. I cant do a lot of jump secondary to a lower back issue, and found that Billy Banks has some great dvds
  • You might want to try Firm Ballroom Aerobics. Some Lovely and FUN aerobics.
