More than half way there, but still so far to go.

  • Hello! This is my first post here. Here's how I got so heavy.
I dislocated my shoulder in 2010, I basically stopped exercising and gained 30 lbs really fast. Then I got pregnant, gained 45 lbs, had my son, lost 25 then gained 20 back because I thought I could eat whatever I wanted breastfeeding. By Jan. 2012, I was at my highest non-pregnant weight ever, 210 lbs.

My husband and I started dieting together in January, and I'm down to 168 (42 lbs lost) but I still have 28 to go. It seems so overwhelming. That first 42 came off in 5 months, and I'm afraid the pace is about to slow way down and I'm going go be so discouraged. How much longer does it take to loose that last 20?
  • Congrats on your first set of weightloss. It can be a very rewarding journey.

As for how long it'll take to lose the last 20...well that all depends on how much you put into it. If you continue to eat healthy and in moderation, add in some exercise then the weight should still come off.
  • Welcome to 3FC! You should find ideas and support here that will help you to push through your last 28, but congrats on your 42! That's a fantastic accomplishment!
  • Congrats on losing 42 lbs already! I think that's quite amazing in itself. The last 10-20 pounds definitely take longer (how long, I don't know), but you shouldn't feel discouraged. It WILL come off. If you're in need for support, I see active threads here on 3fc talking about the last stretch in their weight loss journey and encouraging others to keep on going.
  • Thank you! You guys are so nice. 42 is a lot, but I don't even feel very good about it because I'm just so ashamed of myself for getting to the point that I needed to lose 70lbs. Thanks for reminding me to be proud of my accomplishment.
  • You should be so proud you've already lost 42 pounds! I hope one day I can be as successful as you! It's 10x harder to lose weight than gain it and to make it so far is amazing. Good for you.

Hi, Peaches! I'm new here, too. You should be so proud of yourself- 42 pounds is great! I know what you mean, though, about feeling ashamed about letting it happen in the first place. I just started out, and that is how I feel, too. But I just keep telling myself...you gotta start somewhere. You are an inspiration!
  • This is one of those moments I'm glad we still use stones as well as pounds in England.

You started at fifteen stone, and you've lost three. Two to go. That means you're sixty per cent of the way there, and you've lost a fifth of your body weight already. Doesn't that sound pretty impressive, when you see the numbers like that?

It also means we can make the next two stone look a bit more achievable. You're at twelve stone, aiming for ten. That means you're only looking to lose one sixth of your current body weight. You've already proved that you're capable of losing a whole fifth of an even higher body weight. So you can totally manage a sixth now. Stay positive, and you'll get there!
