Average Timeline for Weight Loss on the SB Diet

    I started the South Beach Diet 9 days ago and I have lost 6 lbs. Some days I do not lose any weight and I am not cheating... is this normal?

    I am new to South Beach too, so I may not be the best person to reply. I am starting week 4, so the second week of Phase 2. I only lost 6 pounds on phase 1, I didn't cheat either and I exercised. The first week of phase 2 I lost 2.2 pounds. Don't get discouraged. I think everyone's bodies are different. Besides as I understand it phase 1 is more about eliminating cravings for sugar and carbs and phase 1 did that for me 100%. Keep up the good work and the rewards will come.

  • Weight loss is not linear on this or any plan. Some people don't weigh daily for that reason. It is very common plateau or to go up and down, all while eating well.
  • I think 6 pounds in 9 days sounds great! 1.5 lbs per day, good job!
  • The first few days on any reduced carb plan reduce your glycogen stores. You're losing water weight now. It's normal. Weight loss is definitely not linear. I lose all my weight during one week of the month. So I'll lose 4 lbs on week one and then none for a few more weeks. Keep a calendar pinned up and write your daily weights on it. You'll see your pattern after a few months. Don't let the scale discourage you, though. It is not the main measure of progress anyway!
