  • I have two tattoos that I love, even though they are somewhat lacking in quality and need to be touched up. Both where from before Husband and I got together.

Here's the issue now. He wants me to wait until we can go spend thousands on the best artists in the country. I want to get tatted locally by good artists. They may not be the best of the best, but they are good and I like their work. Make sense to anyone? So tired of waiting to win the lottery just so I can get some ink.
  • Your body, your decision. And it isn't like you can't do BOTH -- get a local artist now and when you win the lotto get ANOTHER tatt.

    A.
  • what, he thinks you're the sistine chapel now?

while that's flattering, bottom line is that it's your bottom on the line.

    your skin, your choice.

oh - and it's not like tattoos can't be redone.
  • I agree with above.
Tattoos are personal and no one...no one...should tell you where/why/how to get them.
  • Why, yes he does think I'm the Sistine Chapel, stretch marks and all! Never really thought of it that way, but I think that's part of it. The other part is that he used to have a really high paying job before he met me, so he still thinks in terms of being able to fly to New York and get tattooed. It's just not our reality. Anyway, thanks for listening and chiming in. I'll let you know how that conversation goes.
  • New York is over hyped ...

we have our good bad and ugly of tattoo artists here ..... i kinda think the artists here are more concerned with making a quick buck then spending the time and effort into working with you to design a peice that is truley all your own.....

i say go local but dont be overley cheap about it , really make sure that it fits you and its something you will love for years and years to come because its on you for life

cover ups can only do so much .... your limited

and laser removal isnt perfected just yet it still leaves some scarring ... id rather have a beautiful peice of wearable art than some ugly scarred skin

tattoos should not be done on a whim think long and hard !
  • No whim here, I've been planning my tattoos since I was about 10!
  • I think it depends on what you want. I wouldn't settle for a crap tattoo because its cheap and local, KWIM? But there may be good artists where you are. The furthest I've driven for a tattoo is an hour and a half. But it really is your body.

Agreed. I wouldn't settle for just an "okay" tattoo. It's a permanent choice, but if you can get something that looks great and is local and less expensive, go for it.
  • If you found a local artist you like then you should go to them. I was told when I was young "Good tattoos are never cheap, and cheap tattoos are never good." and it's true. I have some cheap, ugly tattoos- but I also have some expensive lovely tattoos, and some reasonably priced good tattoos. I'm saving up for my next few, because they're intricate..

This is where I'm planning on going. They are no joke and very professional. I'm not talking about some scratcher who only charges $40 and hour.
  • If you are just looking to have the existing tattoos touched up, I don't see an issue with finding someone local who can help you out. Just as long as you like what you see in their portfolio!

For anyone interested in the results of this debate. I love it!!!!!
  • It's beautiful. Love it!

Man, I can't wait to get another one!
  • Thanks, now I have to figure out what to put on the other side.
