  • Quote: No spaghetti straps on me. Mostly sleeveless, light jersey with big fun prints. The spring ones have mid length flows sleeves and all are just above the knee.

Wearing one right now as I sit in the urologists office full of older men.
Maybe this years styles will be different, last year I had a really hard time finding dresses without spaghetti straps.
I bet you feel like a rose amongst all those thorns
  • Quote: You can always wear a light cardigan too! (Well, at least in Canada!)
That's true. When I was shopping it was for a vacation to a very hot climate so I would have looked out of place with a cardigan on. I could get away with that now.
  • Almost my entire spring/summer wardrobe are these styles of dresses - jersey shift dresses - some 3/4 length sleeves, some cap sleeves, some sleeveless - but none less sleeve than the one shown. I find that for my body shape (and age) this is the most attractive and comfortable clothing there is. I bought like every single one that was brought into the consignment shop and I've picked up a few at TJMaxx/Marshall's too. I LOVE them and I love the wonderful, bold patterns.

I actually got this one at TJMaxx.

  • Wow berry, those are CUTE! I need to look into these. We don't have a Marshall's nearby, but we do have TJ Maxx.
  • They are all over the place. They don't get wrinkly either so they would travel well which I think is great for traveling too.
  • I bought a few last year - long ones, but they were very clingy material and I looked awful in them, this year I'd like to show a bit of leg, be nice if i could get a stone off by then.
  • Ladies, if you find sundresses / sleeveless dresses you like, but don't want the spaghetti straps, look into getting some shrugs. I have a ton of sundresses that are not appropriate in my office, but with a shrug over the top, they are totally fine. They are short-sleeved and cover that unsightly sway on the bottom of my upper arms!

Coming here from the south, I can tell you that shrugs are much more easy to wear than a cardigan. If you have Dress Barns in your area, you can find tons of them there. I love lightweight dresses. With 100 degree summer days, pants are a no-no for me.
  • I love dresses and skirts, especially soft, flowy ones, almost ethereal looking. Dresses are so much more feminine than shorts or pants, I'm trying to rock maxi dresses because I adore them, but I feel like I'm a bit too short for that. I also really like flower prints on dresses and pastel colors, perfect for spring and summer.
  • I would wear dresses more if they had pockets! I have to have my lip balm all the time, and at work I need to have my key card.

I have 1 skort and 1 pair of capris that fit - otherwise I need a whole new summer wardrobe. Unless I can find some pocketed dresses, I'll probably restock on skorts.
  • Went to TJ Maxx today, the dress selection was eh. I'll have to try again in a few weeks.
  • Nope, I LOVE dress!

I've found that with weight loss (and not having a flabby stomach that the waistband of jeans/pants cuts into) dress tend to be much more flattering on me. I'm slowly working on buidling up my dress wardrobe because I love them so much.

I did end up making a pair of capris (had a pair of pants hemmed below the knee) and that got me through the summer (especially good for more active times like days in the park where you're running after kids) but beyond that dress are great for summer.
  • I love summer dresses and skirts, but does anyone have any tips for avoiding the horrible discomfort of your upper thighs rubbing together? Mine do all the time, so sore

Monistat Anti-chafing gel works wonders or slimming shorts (like Spanx). I have to wear Spanx to work during the summer or I'd be inappropriately jiggly in the rear with only a thin dress to cover it!
  • I found some cute cotton dresses at Walmart. I try to shop other places such as Kohl's but then end up finding what I want at Walmart. I also found some cute bolero jackets.

Leaves, I wear cotton bike pants under my dresses.
  • true, girls are wearing dresses like no other this year! and I like it. It's time for me to do the same
