Girls - working out with shorter hair

  • Hey ladies
This is kind of a random question. I want to get my hair cut short (around my chin, with bangs) but I was concerned about it annoying me while I work out and run if I can't pull it up. How do you get your hair off you face/neck to workout and not have it sticking to your skin if it's too short to put in a ponytail? Thanks!
  • Lots of barrettes, in my case. It is not an especially attractive look. But I am of an age to be pretty business-minded about exercise, as are most of the other people in my gym, nobody is very concerned about their physical appeal. I had a vague idea of getting some kind of hair band. But I haven't found anything that looks like it won't either shift around or be too heavy/sweaty -- I sweat a lot when I do any kind of cardio.

I use two kind of flat barrettes that I can usually only find in CVS/Walgreens or sometimes Walmart, they're just very simple flat metal bent into barrette shape. You could use hairpins too, but I have very fine hair that tends to break with hairpins. Just looked on the package: I use two kinds, these packages happen to be from Goody -- one is called "Alice barrettes" and the other is called "Breanna snap clips". (BTW the description on the Walmart page for the Alice barrettes is hilariously purple prose, some advertising copy writer was REALLY bored that day.)

I deal with it mostly in the cut, I ask my stylist to cut it chin-length in the front and pretty short on the back of my neck (no bangs). When it becomes long enough to stick back there I know it's time to visit her.

I am interested to see what people have come up with. Pictures would be great!
  • Standard headband in my case does the job wonderfully. Once again not the most attractive look but works which is what you need
  • I wore my hair shorter for a few years & when working out I would always use a hairband or a headband. Does the job.
  • Itty bitty clips - tried the headbands but they give me headaches.
  • Hairband, headband, barrettes, bobby pins, metal clips. In winter, fleece earband. Or I let the band from my headphones keep everything off my face and just ignore the rest; I'll be showering (and washing my hair) afterward regardless.
  • Audri, headbands give me headaches too! It's so weird. I'll have to try to find a kind that does and invest in the metal clips. Bronzeager, I think I know the clips you're talking about. My hair's thin so that's the kind I have to use anyway. Bobby pins just fall out. This is the haircut I want to get: http://www.realbeauty.com/cm/realbea...n-64228817.jpg
My little sister says bangs might not be a good idea for me because they require "maintenance" and my idea of maintenance is taking the time to blowdry my hair. :P Do you think that haircut could work with the shape of my face? There's a picture of me in my profile. What are your opinions on bangs like that? Do you think I could skip the bangs and have the same general look with the cut?
  • (Sorry, I guess that last bit should go in a different section of the forum!)
  • I use an underscarf, which looks like this. It's basically a tube of material that slides over the head/hair. The only downside is that it can be a touch warm if you aren't used to it. I'm used to it though

Still, I'm glad my hair is almost long enough for a pony tail again!
  • I wear soccer hair bands. They are really thin and hold all the hair that doesn't fit into a ponytail back flat against your head.

Here is what I have: http://www.soccersavings.com/custome...:referralID=NA

You wear it like the tall girl in the back left of this picture: http://ueberdiebruecke.wordpress.com...cross-country/
  • I just wear a cute girly cap.
  • My hair is essentially chin length and I just use some of the little clips to keep it out of my face, headbands squeeze my brain lol
  • plain boring old white {or pink} sweatbands, which does double duty to keep my hair back and the sweat out of my eyes. Fortunatly, my dog doesn't laugh at me!
  • My hair is a little shorter than what you're talking about, but I stick back everything that could annoy me with bobby pins.
  • I have my hair down all the time because it's short. I put it behind my ears and it stays there but my hair is just under my ears so it's not a long length so it pretty much stays out of my face. I'm sure you can put your hair in a small pony tail and then use a headband and you'll be fine.
