Random Issues

  • I have a few random issues.

One thing that's driving me insane: my family keeps asking me if I want to eat out with them. One thing, I shouldn't, because I have an ulcer. The second thing, how can I say no? It's not often I get to do things with my family, but I end up eating a 1,000 calorie meal....

Another thing: why do scales change 2-3 pounds when you move them? I was 169 this morning and a moment later 172. That's a big different, IMO. Do I just have a bad scale?
  • The same thing happens with my scale. I am thinking about getting a new one.
  • Ask them if you can choose the place and go somewhere you can make good choices. What sort of restaurants do they opt for? Most places will have salads or soups and you can get dressing on the side or bring a low cal one with you.
  • You don't necessarily have to turn down their offer for dinner. Plenty of restaurants have healthy meal choices to choose from. Just know where you're going ahead of time and do your calculations.
You shouldn't have to completely give up special moments with family because you're eating healthier.

As for the scale, is it digital? I have both. My digital one is pretty on point. Even calculates the fat percentage & water. Love it.
The other one is trying to be my friend by telling me I weigh 20 lbs less.
  • My digital scale does not like to be moved. It needs to be on a hard surface , not carpet and left there.
  • My electronic scale changes its mind about what I weigh if I so much as look at it wrong. My boyfriend's scale is absolutely steady and I think it has something to with the fact that he paid at least twice as much for his than I did for mine. I only ever use his now.
  • If you can't refuse to go out and eat dinner with them, plan ahead. Many restaurants have menu's available online now, look yours up and look ahead for something on the healthier side to order. That way when you get there you don't even have to look at the menu and all those tempting options, you already know
Or you can work those kinds of nights into your calorie budget, just keep a low calorie count going without starving yourself and save most of them for dinner, I do this sometimes.

As for the scale thing, my digital scale hates being moved. It needs to be on a certain tile or its readings are different. I think the tiles in my bathroom are a little wonky and uneven. Just find a place it seems to work and leave it there, if it continues to pop up such random numbers think about changing the batteries (If you haven't already) you would be surprised at how off the scale can be when the batteries are dying. If all else fails then you can look into getting a new scale.
