Any tips?

  • I'm going to work as hard as I can to lose the weight now. I'm 235lbs at the moment and want to get down to 145lbs eventually. I'm exercising and attending the gym as much as I can and am also following a diet of eating less than 1100 Cal a day. I've also signed up to slimming world in the hope the support from there will also help me Just wondered if anyone had any extra tips or advice for me?
  • Yep! One really important tip: Stick with it!

(Oh, and eating under 1200 calories is considered not healthy, btw.)
  • A good tip I found out was to eat 5 smaller meals a day and eat when I felt hungry rather than at set times.

By eating smaller meals and often, I found this staved off any cravings.

Perhaps give that a go for a couple of weeks and see how you get on?
  • I found that drinking lots and lots of water curves my appetite and doesn't make me want to binge anymore!
  • I think 1100 calories + regular gym at your height and weight might be a little too little. This isn't a sprint. You don't want to burn out and quit because you get hungry/feel deprived and undernourished and the plan begins to feel undoable.

I would up the calories a little bit, especially if you're going to be working out too. Maybe somewhere around the 1400-1500 range. You could probably go a little higher even.

Tips wise, drinking water does make you feel fuller. Don't always wait till you're thirsty because sometimes I've found thirst feels like hunger. Also don't be in too much of a hurry. Try to remind yourself, you didn't get to where you are in a week or a month. You can do this! Good luck! And congrats in advance!
  • Hi Bec, just wanted to say 'Welcome' and good luck. I too attend slimming world, and cannot recommend it enough. Its the only plan iv have ever been able to stick too, and it doesnt feel like depravation! Your cals do sound a little low for a starting point, so just make sure you are getting your vits, calcium etc, otherwise you may get run down. Also with exercise, start slowly, especially if your not used to it. You can always up the pace as you lose, and if you plateau.

Theres a guy on 3fc (not sure of his username, as im quite new on here) with a great signature which reads something like " use food/diet for weight loss, and exercise for fitness" which i think makes loads of sense. Good luck again x
  • Its great to hear you so motivated, but like others have commented, under 1200 and exercising at your current weight/height is unnecessary. You should allow yourself at least 1200 daily, and give yourself a ceiling, like 1450 on the days that you exercise heavily and/or find yourself hungrier.

The idea is to diet "smart" not "hard" and lose slow and steady and be able to stick to it.

After a while the newness wanes, also, you may find yourself tired on so few calories. There's no reason to be so restrictive. As you lose weight, you'll lower your daily caloric needs and adjust accordingly.

    And, good luck.
