Help me get into this dress.

  • My brother in law is getting married Nov. 11th. I bought a dress yesterday to wear to the wedding, BUT it doesn't quite fit. I have 6 weeks to get into this dress. Currently I'm counting calories and exercising a little. I know I'm going to have to up the exercise to get this dress to fit. What tips do you have to help me get into this dress?
  • I found that I need to lose 15 pounds , at least, to drop a dress size. Can the dress be let out ?. A seamstress can take care of that. Other choice take that dress back and get a different one,
  • I'll keep the dress even if I can't wear it to the wedding, because it was a good deal and I can wear it to prom this spring. I would really like to wear it to the wedding, though because it coordinates so well with my daughter's dress and my husband's tux. It's not a full size too small, just tighter than I would like.
  • Weight lifting, that's what really gets rid of inches the quickest. Check out the New Rules of Lifting for Women. Granted, you have to pair this with a good diet because if you're eating too many calories you're going to gain both fat and muscle. So I think you're on the right track with calorie counting (make sure you get a good deal of calories from protein).

BTW, if you're new to lifting DON'T freak out if shortly after lifting:
    a. the scale goes up and/or stays the same
    b. you feel bigger (might measure slightly bigger too immediately after a workout and even up to a day or two afterwards

All this is that when you lift weights your body tears the muscle. You're actually burning a lot of calories while your body repairs the muscle the next day or two after lifting but in that process you retain water, which makes your muscles look bigger and you may weigh more on the scale. However, this is just temporary!!!

A number of people (myself included) have found that when you lift you can actually drop a size or two from where you were previously at the same weight.
  • Is that something I can do at home or do I have to belong to a gym to lift weights?

*editted to say gym NOT guy. I will never belong to anyone lol
  • You could try an intense workout video like 30 day shred? I've never tried it but I bet if you did it every day starting right away you would notice a difference!! And DEFINITELY watch what you eat! At the end of it - if you still feel like it's a little tight, buy some spanx!

Certainly a gym is the best option but there are TONS of things you can do at home even just with your own body weight. I also highly recommend the 30 Day Shred but I think lifting will get you the best results in the quickest time.
  • low carb and lots of working out. And you can work out at home with resistance bands, using your body weight and free weights if you have them. It may not be quite as effective as all the various equipment there is in a gym but it can still work esp. if you stick like glue on your eating.

^This! Low carb mixed with low calorie. It did wonders for me way back when.

Keep the dress, be diligent in your eating and you'll be rocking it at the wedding!
  • I agree with the others about eating low carb. It is the only diet that not only speed up weight loss but really cuts the cravings for sweets and bad carbs.
  • In addition to some weights, add a fast 2 mile walk each day. When I did that last summer, I lost lots of inches. I didn't lose much weight until I changed what I was eating, but I went down a size in just over a month.

  • i would try to do double workouts, one in the morning and one at night. also lots of water, weights, and running gets the weight off fast. good luck!
