Anyone doing South Beach As Vegetarian?

  • I am seriously considering going vegetarian (still eating dairy and eggs).

Anyone here doing SB as a vegetarian? How are you finding it? I'm thinking it would be easy to do.

    Thanks.
  • We have quite a few vegetarians here. Several times a year I'll enter all my food into the livestrong site and I have no problem getting my protein in. I eat dairy and eggs, but not every day.
  • As Lexxis said, there are several of us vegetarians here, and we find it's no problem at all following the South Beach Diet plan.
  • Yep, there are a few here! (Though I go back and forth on fish so I'm not vegetarian, but probably 90-95%)

I use tofu and tempeh and lots of soy/gluten "fake meat" products (though I often go back and forth on those as well).

I think veggies tend to eat more beans and maybe nuts but that part has never caused a problem for me.

    Have fun
  • My husband is a vegetarian. He tended to go along with South Beach accidentally the last time I did it because that's the food that's in the house.

I'm a lazy cook though so sometimes I end up eating veggie-SB too.

He's glad I'm back on SB now and he's decided to start next week (his birthday is this Friday. no need to set up for a phase-1 failure by starting this week).
  • Thanks for the responses...still thinking about it!

zel, it's great that your husband is going on SB. My husband is thinking about it - mainly because he's having back problems from being overweight (all his weight is in his stomach!). I'm so hoping he'll come along for the ride.

If you make dinners and dessert that he'll enjoy that is on the plan, then he's almost there anyway.
  • I'm not a vegetarian, but I have noticed that I'm eating a lot more vegetarian meals on the SBD. There's just so many great SBD recipes that happen to be vegetarian - I've become an accidental vegetarian some days! Specifically, the recipes I have in mind are:
    - Cauliflower crust pizza
    - Eggplant and/or zucchini lasagna
    - Taco Salad
    - Shiritaki noodle stir-fry
  • Cauliflower crust pizza? Oh, that sounds so creative! I'll have to search for that recipe.
  • I eat about 98%sbd friendly, and I eat VEGAN So yep, it can be done!
