Dieting and extreme dizziness

  • Is it normal?

I take other medications that are known to cause dizziness, but lately I've noticed my dizziness being pretty severe.
  • The first thing I'd say is to make sure you are drinking lots of water and staying properly hydrated. But particularly where you are on medication, you absolutely need to call your doctor ASAP.
  • You may not be eating a well balanced diet which may cause low blood pressure which causes dizziness. You may be anemic or your sugar levels may be too low. And like April said above, you could be dehydraded.

But yes, I'd definitely consult a doctor if your dizziness is now worse.

If you drink a lot of caffinated drinks, I'd cut back on that too.
  • I'm with the other ladies. You should probably call your doctor ASAP to determine the cause of your dizziness.
With that said I'm not sure how long you have been dieting or how much you have lost. But could it be possible that you are on meds that you no longer need to be on (blood pressure may have improved?)
Anyway, I say call your Doctor and tell him what your symptoms are and see what he/she recommends.
    Hope it gets better.
  • Thanks for the timely responses.

I just went and had my first big meal in a month. I now have an extreme headache instead of dizziness.

I'm worried about being diabetic, but I'm also a hypochondriac so I never know if I'm just worrying for no reason.

I may go check it out with my doctor.

Btw, is this site for females only? I didn't think much of it when I joined.
  • Bribarian how long have you been dieting? Are you perhaps feeling the effects of a sudden reduction in sugar or carbs?
And no this isn't just for women there are men who contribute regularly to these discussions.
  • If you aren't eating enough and your blood sugar goes too low, then you will get dizzy. You haven't mentioned what sort of plan you are following, but my guess is that this is what's happening.

You really should get checked out to make sure you are not diabetic before you go further. Also, a doctor might be able to recommend a diet program, or refer you to someone who can.

  • Bri: I went through about a month of dizzy spells. It was probaly about 20 pounds/3-4 months into my journey. They would be especially bad about 3-4 hours after eating. I am also a hypochondriac and I have an issue with my eyes not focusing together always because my prescription in my left eye went downhill quickly (so my brain stopped looking out of it for a while). So I didn't know if it was eye, blood pressure or blood sugar related. The good news is that it eventually resolved itself. I hope your dizzy spells are also nothing serious.
  • I echo what others have said. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR!!

My extreme dizzy spells were resolved by open heart surgery, a double coronary artery bypass. I never knew I had a problem. It was resolved when I complained to my doctor about dizzy spells.

    Larry,
