Back again after a few setbacks...

  • So I was on 3FC last year for a while and was doing really well with my weight loss. I went through a rough breakup and was focusing on myself, and saw a loss from 159 to 144! Then the holidays happened and it all went south. At 161 lbs I re-dedicated myself in January (my New Years' Resolution was to become a runner again, so I started C25K) and was doing great! I started dating a great guy (also a runner) in February, and did my first 5K in March. I got back down to 147 lbs and was feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, the new bf and I are lovers of good food and started getting more wrapped up in each other than our fitness goals and in no time I was tipping the scales back at 163 So, here I am again! I've been calorie counting and jogging at least three days a week, and just started adding in strength training at least 2 days a week. I am back down to 154 and just ran 3.45 miles yesterday! I have NEVER been able to do that before. My boyfriend, who was a half-marathon runner, has rededicated himself to getting ready for a marathon coming up this December. I am now focusing on being able to do a 10K, but who knows? By December I may be able to do that half marathon while he does the full :-) I know what I have to do to meet my goals, I just have to keep my motivation high, and I love the support here on 3FC!
  • hdallas - I just started jogging last year. Then I stopped over the winter...boy was that a mistake. Not only did I put on a little weight, but restarting was hard. I am finally loving jogging again and am planning on doing a 10K in October.
  • Good on you for coming back And for completing a 5k.
  • Envelope, I was surprised at how hard it was to start again. Shin splints, knee pain, etc., almost made me quit but I just kept walk/jogging until I could finally run again. I just ran 5 miles for the first time in my life and finally feel like a RUNNER!! My bf is doing a marathon in December and he is encouraging me to go for the half. I never imagined I could do anything like that but now I just might go for it!!
  • I love working toward a set fitness goal, like a marathon. I'm so much more inspired and less frustrated than when I try to work toward a weight deadline (x lbs by a certain date). I'm aiming for a trail marathon in September - I paid the fee so there's no going back now. Time to work at it!
  • Good luck! I did a 10k for the first time back in November and loved it. Keep up the good work and you'll be there in no time!
  • I have been loving jogging...now that my shin splints have gotten much better. I though they were gone for good, but the other last week I had a pizza the night before a jog and I think the extra sodium caused my shin splints to flair.

I signed up for a 1/2 marathon in Sept. I am into my 2nd week training and am nervous, but I am determined to finish!
  • Staying healthy is a lifelong goal. You can do it.
  • Thank you for the encouragement! My very first goal when I re-started May 17th was to lose 20 lbs in the ten weeks I had left until my trip to Vegas with my bf. I am 3 lbs away and have 13 days to go! I've slowed down to about a 1.5 lb per week loss so I should just barely hit the mark, but I will be adding in some extra cardio to push through. When we get back we will be in full training mode for my half marathon and his full coming up in December
