  • Welcome to the month of June which means BBQ, boats, beaches, brats and beer, a hard month to keep OP but I intend to do it. I finally put my ticker up the two pounds that I have decided was NOT water weight.

Yesterday was really hot for us here in Delta at 84ºF. I did get some of the Village plantings done but was pretty wilted by 11 a.m. So were they although I lugged lots of water to them as I planted. This morning I will get the Gazebo planters done as early as possible before it gets brutal out there. It's 76ºF right now so I guess my morning should start soon.

The rest of the day will be Mill banking, some of my own gardening and working on my problem quilt which must be ready by next Monday for pinning before actual quilting. I have been hoping the elves who come in the night would finish it but it was not to happen.

I will work in some deck time and may even give the front porch a try. It needs a good cleaning and painting but that can happen later. It's a rainy day job anyhow.

I'm babbling. Have a great Hump Day!
  • SBD Daily Chat for Wednesday, June 1
Welcome to June, everyone! I personally need to make this a month of focus on diet and exercise. I've technically lost about 6 pounds since January, and been maintaining that since then, so that's a positive. The first time I did South Beach I kept off about 5 pounds of that loss and with this 6 now that makes 11 lbs truly gone for over a year so I'm proud of that.

My mom has gone into a rest home for 2 weeks and I'm hopeful this will give both my parents a break from each other and get some space and time to think about what will come next. The situation is NOT good on so many levels but I'm hopeful and actively praying for them to both find some peace and for me to be able to maintain a healthy boundary with this situation. It's really good to throw myself into a routine and this feels like a month of tying up loose ends anyway as school is ending, camp will be starting at the end of the month. Yesterday had two very serendipitous experiences which gave me comfort.

Hope everyone has a great day and let's start a great month!
  • Wow, it's Hump Day already! And happy 1st day of June! The kids are officially counting down the last days of school.

Matilda, I hope this break really helps improve the situation with your parents and eases the stress for all of you. And you're doing a great job with maintaining your weight in light of all the stress, too.

Ruth, I bet the planters are looking great and have fun getting the rest of them finished. Do you have help, or are you doing all this yourself? And, remember, you have 8 weeks to get that porch painted!

Another hot day on tap here. I be at Susie's this morning to run the vacuum for them before picking up the girls at school and heading down to Devon. Cindy has her side-saddle competition this afternoon, and I sure don't envy her in that heavy wool riding habit.
  • egads, I got up for my first early run of the year, and it was already 72 degrees with 88% humidity. YUCK!!

Matilda - Praying for your family, that has got to be difficult. You should be proud of yourself for maintaining thru that!

Cottage - Hump day did come quick this week, huh? Wish we could take Mondays off more often .

Ruth - LOL on the ticker, I understand!!

Glad the run is out of the way, between humidity and schedule. Gonna be busy with work, school meeting, dentist appointment, and the inlaws coming in town tomorrow. Time to clean!!

    Stay cool, chicks!
  • Good morning. June! How did that happen?

Ruth - May was my tough month this year so I am hoping to cruise through June once I get past this first weekend of travel.

Matilda - Kudos on keeping that weight off! I'm such a yo-yo-er that I know what a great accomplishment that is.

Linda - I forgot it was Wednesday! Hot here too.

Twynn - My favorite part of having house guests is having a briefly cleaned house in preparation... and DH pitches in

I'm off the they gym with my mom today and must get out to buy groceries. Tonight my 3 little nephews arrive for a stay while their parents head out of town to consider relocating. So it will be a bit crazy around here until we hand them off to my mom on Saturday when DH and I head to a family reunion. (His side.) My oldest made it as far as Ohio yesterday, more than halfway back to campus.

Off to put beans in the crockpot...
  • Good morning Hot day here too, just like yesterday. I've got a couple of extra busy days to make up for the long weekend

Ruth - If you see those elves could you send them this way when they are done? I could really use a few around here. Still need to get my garden in!

Mathilda - I'm so glad you are prioritizing taking care of you through all this.

Cottage - What will your summer schedule look like? Do the girls go to camps or anything?

Twynn - Eek, congratulations on sticking to that run in the humidity! One of the reasons I love this place - you are all such inspirations.

I managed to stay on plan in spite of the craziness. I did have a small bowl of soup that included brown rice and a few pieces of melon late in the evening. I really do want to do another week of Phase 1 though and think I'll wait before adding any more grain or fruit. I'd like to stay really clean until my birthday dinner then just have my annual piece of food porn before getting back on track the next day

Hope you're all drinking lots of water and staying as comfortable as possible now that warm weather has finally arrived! Happy Hump Day

    ETA good morning Karen
  • Good Morning

I slept late and upon arising the immediate needs of the "clan" became my #1 priority. I haven't checked on mom yet....that's next. We have a busy day here. We'll hit the pool early then I'll ride my bike to an allergy testing appt. Kirk has another biofeedback appt. right after lunch. We've designated tomorrow as a travel day for all so we need to get our watering system hooked up for the garden and get the house spiffed up.

I took a deep breath Monday and asked my yoga teacher about the possibility of my getting certified to teach in the water. She ended up asking me if I would teach her class the entire month of August. Our club director said that was fine but "he couldn't pay me." It figures....I have decided I will accept this first assignment without pay but if it works out and I'm asked again I think I will sit down with him and try to stand up for myself.

Ruth, have fun planting now that the heat has finally arrived!

Matilda, I hope your parents 2 week break helps.

Linda, I hope Cindy does well at the competition!

Karen, I don't envy you with the 3 kids!

Cyndi, I'm cheering you on to keep up your clean eating until your BD.

Twynn, yay for an early run before your busy day.

    See ya'll later!
  • hey girls. quick check-in for me. wanted to let everyone in on my exciting news. i was hired by a gym to teach some of their group fitness classes and lead their yoga program. i start my training on friday!

    have a wonderful day, everyone!
  • Well girls I am back, it has been a long time! I have made up my mind that I have to do this and no matter what I will. I had a talk with my wonderful son who is 25 and he told me something that really clicked. " Mom, this is your time, it is time to do something for you and care about yourself. We want you around for a long time." I cried and thought, it is time to get out of the chair and start taking care of myself! Wish me luck, I know the first 2 weeks are hard, but this time I will do it!!!!
  • Good morning,

Quick check in for me. We are crazy busy at work, I think I am actually looking forward to class next week even though I will have tons of homework to do each night.

Well DS is going to be able to transfer so we started all the paperwork- things fell right into place, I am happy for him.

Okay gotta run, make it a great day everyone
  • Good morning ladies!
It is so nice to hear little slices of everyone's lives. Debbie and Zeff - teaching workout classes!?! That is incredible! And Bkstitch, hooray for coming back to the Beach. I just finished my two weeks. Took lots of planning and I got a tad grumpy here and there, but it is so worth it because now I feel healthier and proud of myself for getting through. You'll feel the same very, very soon.
Have a great Wednesday and hooray for June!
  • Hello, everyone! It's another broiling day here in DC. I live in an apartment and so can't grill outside, but since there is no breeze and it's horribly humid, I'm not sorry!

Matilda, Im glad you are getting a break. I know you need it. My mother went into the hospital at 88, then transferred to a nursing home 100 miles away. I was recovering from major surgery and could not visit her for weeks. I made at least 5 phone calls a day until she passed away (two years ago today, as it happens). It was a very stressful and worrisome time, and my heart goes out to you.
  • Z, what amazing news! Congrats, and what a good way to make sure you get your own workouts in.
  • Hello everyone!! I'm a newbie here...didn't really know where to post so after lurking around, I decided this was a good spot to land. Today is June 1 and I am proclaiming it as my 1st day to getting healthy with SB..woo hoo!! I have already completed PH1. I have been on diets all my life and at 61 years old, I think it's time for a "lightbulb" moment and know that a lifestyle change is needed here. With age come health issues and even though I can't control all of them, I can control some of them. There is no "finish line". When I get to goal, I will still have to maintain but prayerfully it won't be the struggle it is now. I am here to support all of you wonderful people. I expect you to make me accountable and I will do the same for you. (((Hugs))) to all!! Let's do this!!
  • Granchick. it's great to see another woman of a certain age although I have several on you! This certainly is a very do-able plan. Congrats on finishing Phase i. Remember to take it carefully as you head into Phase II. Some of us do Phase I.5 by adding just one thing for a week and seeing how that goes.
