Digestive issues (TMI, obviously)

  • Hey guys,

I haven't posted in a while, and I'm sorry to barge in like this with a self-serving post, but I wanted to ask you this.

For the last 2 weeks my digestion has been super slow. I haven't changed anything in my diet (or better, HADN'T, when it started), and one day I just started burping like there was no tomorrow after a regular-sized meal, then started having more frequent bowel movements (I even had diahrrea one day, and I'm chronically constipated), and after that pretty much everything I ate made me regret it bitterly. It's not nausea, there's no vomiting, it just seems like I've had weight loss surgery and my stomach can't take what it used to overnight. It also seems that fat makes it worse. On Saturday I was so bloated after lunch I looked pregnant. I went to the ER on Sunday, but the doctor just gave me pills and told me to see a specialist (scheduled for tomorrow) and said he suspected gall bladder stones. Anyone have any experience with that? Or any experience with not being able to eat what you used to overnight? This is just weird. And uncomfortable. I've had to drop my consumption by 500-600 calories to stay comfortable.

    Thank you.
  • I hope you get some answers. It does sound very uncomfortable. I've had friends with gall bladder problems and I don't know the specifics but I know they've had major problems with food.
  • I don't have any personal experience with it, but my mom had gallstones and had to have her gallbladder out. As I recall her only symptom was stabbing pain in her abdomen where the gallbladder was located.

I hope the doctors can find the problem! Maybe some kind of virus or food poisoning?
  • Thanks, guys. I don't know, my symptoms don't seem that extreme (although they're incredibly uncomfortable). Jessica, I don't think it's a virus or food poisoning, because after 16 days it would have taken care of itself, right?
  • Timing of this question is interesting as I had a doctor's appointment yesterday about my abdominal pain. They thought it was IBS, gallbladder or an obstruction in my intestine. No, no and no. So I have an appointment with my OBGYN to rule out (or rule in) cysts. This problem is really difficult to figure out. I don't have any answers except to say --- go see your doctor!
  • Clarabr, how did the visit with the specialist go?
  • He asked me for a bunch of tests, and I'm geting most of them done tomorrow, including the endoscopy and ultrasound (which is supposed to tell us if it's gall stones or not). I hope they at least tell me tomorrow if they see any stones.

    Thanks for asking!

ShanIam, I hope they find what's wrong with you too. This is no fun.
  • Not gall stones. Apparently there's a bit of reflux and gastritis. But I'll have to wait for the rest of the tests.
