Fitness video games

  • I bought the EA Sports Active II for the PS3 yesterday and have tried it once - I think I'm going to like it! It's a nice idea to have a personal trainer at home, as well as the game being able to know if you have proper form (because of the sensors) - and it has a heart monitor!

I also bought the Zumba Fitness game, and I have tried it once - I love it already, even though I made the decision that no one will ever watch me doing it because I felt like a total clutz! But, it was fun, and I was sore at the end!

Does anyone have either of these games - what do you think? Are there any other fitness games that are awesome and you would recommend?

  • If i had a gaming system in the living room I would totally do both of those. I did zumba fitness and a freinds house and it is LOADS of fun. I know that Wii has a fitness game but i think it is differnt gaming system. Also there are a couple of dance games too, Just Dance is one of them. Good Job!!
  • That sounds really interesting but as we're low on funds (having two kids and all ) I'm torn between this and just getting the Move.

I know the move has some fitness only "games" but I don't think they're nearly as comprehensive as this one. But my three year old would actually be able to get involved with us if we got the move. Tough choices!

I want one of them VERY badly! Heh.
  • What do you mean by Move? I have the Playstation 3 with the Move addition (basically just a camera and motion controllers). It was a very pricey investment initially (even though we got a great deal on the PS3 back in December). But, I will also say that we play it SO much! Fiance with his NFL Madden game, and me with all the Move games! And, this system plays bluray movies as well, which we use a good bit, too.

We resisted the game system for soooo long because neither of us is a "gamer" and we both resist technology on some level. But, now that we have it, we are very glad we got it.

That having been said, if you don't think you'll use it a bunch, then it's probably not an investment worth making. All of the game systems seem to be very similar these days (PS3 -with Move, Wii, or XBox -with Kinect), which is nice.

There are always DVD's and such that can be purchased if you don't want to make a huge investment!

  • I mean the PS3 Move starter pack which has the eye, one controller and the game for around $100.

It's my understanding that the EA Sports Active only uses the Move eye (not the controller) due to the sensors. So I'd be out the price of the game and the eye (totalling around $100).

I'm just torn over where to lay down my $100.
  • My husband had to have all three: Xbox 360 with Kinect, PS3 with move, and A wii. He's a HUGE gamer.

I think one of my favorite "exercise" games is the Michael Jackson game. Has anyone tried it? It's a little like Just dance (which I also love).
  • These are what I have:

Wii- Just Dance 1 & 2, We Cheer, The Michael Jackson Experience, The Biggest Loser, Wii Fit & Wii Sports

Xbox 360 Kinect- Zumba, Dance Central, EA Sport Active, Kinect Sports

I, personally, like the Kinect better than the Wii. You don't have any controllers, which is so nice!! But until they make a Just Dance for the Kinect, I'll keep playing the Wii, lol!! I don't have any fitness games for the PS3, mostly because we like to buy those games for the Kinect & Wii. And another reason is because the hubs doesn't like to share his precious PS3, lol!! (I have to beg him to let me play Lego Harry Potter!!) Hubs was really against the Move. It just looks like a Wii ripoff. The Kinect is just so much more better. It's soo nice to dance without holding a controller. The only downside with the Kinect..it takes your picture & films you. It's BEYOND hilarious when you're dancing with more people. But when it's just you alone, you look like a dork, lol!!

Oh geez..please don't tell my husband I wrote all that about game systems, lol!! He'd never let me forget it.
  • We've got the Kinect as well and I have used both Your Shape Fitness Evolved and Dance Central and they 100% whoop my A$$
For that matter, they give my 13 year old a run for her money too.
