What was I waiting for, an engraved invitation?

  • Finally, FINALLY, after working here 4 years, I have stepped foot into our company's gym. I can attend any time they are open, M-F, at my leisure for FREE! I never even knew where it was. . .I always made excuses that I could not join a gym because I couldn't afford it, and I couldn't carve out time to go before or after work because of obligations with my SO and kids, etc. etc. Well, this is literally 30 seconds from my office, I have to drive past it on the way home, and I'm carpooling with someone who goes 3 nights a week. I'm sitting there anyway, I might as well participate. Got the okay from my doc today, and I'm heading in tonight to learn about the machines and such. (Can't work out because didn't pack clothes/shoes, duh! Tomorrow!)

Anyway, just thought I'd share that with ya'll that there is hope for me yet! I have a mental block about being this weight, have been hovering sooooooo tantalizingly near onderland for many months, and my personal deadline of breaking it by April 18th is rapidly approaching. Here's to NO EXCUSES!
  • OH MY, what a perfect situation! lol that you're sitting there while your carpool friend works out. Good for you though - sounds ideal! You and me both though - I'm terrible about working out. I have a treadmill in my office, and a bowflex in the other room (I work from home - so yes these items are also RIGHT IN MY HOUSE and I almost NEVER use them!!). Have fun learning about the machines!
  • That's awesome I WISH my job had a gym!
  • Thats awesome!

    workout strong
  • WONDERFUL!!
  • That sounds awesome! Hopefully after getting in there a few times you'll find some things to do that are actually fun and will keep you wanting to go back.
  • Good for you! I know how it goes, I have a membership to the Y that is 5 minutes from my house and they have CHEAP daycare for my kids while I work out, but I still come up with a million excuses. Keep us posted on how it goes, I could definitely use you as inspiration to head back when my doctor okays me!
  • What I would give for a perfect situation like that too... I really want to work out but there is no places around here with day care... My husband is at school for the Air force so I have no baby sitter... but once we get on base I'm going to go every day! I'm so determined.
  • That is so great!
  • What a way to break out of the 200's! You will do it in no time by starting at the gym!

Have fun at the gym and try out everything! Some things you'll love and some things you'll hate. I found rowing and yoga are not for me. But I try it all anyway!
  • Having a gym at work is amazing! We have one here, it doesnt have a millio. Machines or anything but gets the job done. It's a great way to relieve stress after a bad day.
  • That is just great! Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone! I'm excited yet intimidated. There are machines there I have never even heard of, can't remember the names of, and have no idea what they do. But, I'm willing to try them out and get instructions so hopefully I don't hurt myself! Oh, and there's always the heated pool and hot tub to console myself with at the end so there's a plus.

Talked with a physical therapist last night, she took me on a tour, showed me how each machine works, what areas they target, and told me to ask for help whenever I need it. She told me she can help me with my horrible posture, so I'm sold! There's free weights, 3 ellipticals, 3 treadmills, 4 bikes, and many many stations with strange pulleys and contraptions that she promised me would be my friends if I would just give them a chance so I'm anxious to get started.

I'll try to keep this updated and let you know how it goes. . .
