Good morning everyone,
Didn't get back here yesterday. Just too busy with 2 meetings, but I'm glad I went to the seminary. I didn't make any of them last year because I never felt like it. We are supposed to make one a year so I'm told so now I'm caught up.
Ruth I understand about eating so much meat. I can't do that any more. I'm eating more Glycemic Load and I'm really enjoying it. I found a book I bought in June when I first learned I was diabetic, but didn't try it because I went on Atkins. Since I've been trying to add more fiber into my woe, I decided to read it. It is called The GL Diet for Dummies. It does stress them importance of eating lower carb, but not as low as Atkins. Interesting thing I never noticed is that it shows the plate idea that my doctor told me I could do. It divides the plate 3 ways 1/4 protein 1/4 starchy veggie (preferably lower carb GL type) and 1/2 veggies but the book goes into more detail about how to do all this. I think Atkins is good for getting things in check, but we can eat a little more carbs.
DH had his appt with the Digestive Disease doc and he thinks Tony could have an infection so is prescribing an antibiotic. Have to get that today. Also wants lab test to be sure. Went by Walmart to put prescription in and I picked up some fruit and some brown rice and couscous. I've never eaten couscous but DD loves it. I got the rice to go with my 15 bean soup.
Mad I've learned that I cannot eat loads of carbs either, but I do need a little more for energy. I don't like lowfat diets that restrict fats so much either. I think there has to be a balance. I lost weight on a very lowfat diet once and my hair was constantly losing hair because it was so dry. While I think we need a balance, I also think that balance is different for each person. You obviously have learned yours and I look forward to learning mine.
My FBS was finally back down where the doctor wants it to be. So now I just need to get it down where I want it to be. My weight is still down and I'm waiting to get under 210. Hopefully it will happen by my next WI day. I decided my weight loss isn't all that bad. It has been slow yes, but it has come down and that is good. I think I'll lose more before the end of the year. However as of now I've lost 26 lbs so I suddenly realized that even if I don't lose any more weight before the end of the year, I will have lost an average of 1 lb a week which is good. So I'm satisfied with that.
