When the news is devastating!

  • My Dad has stage 4 small cell lung cancer. My uncle has mouth cancer. Both have made me resolve to continue the quit smoking, I quit in early June sometime, I didn't even keep track just quit and moved on. It hasn't really bugged me, even after stopping the champix pills. I even went for a drink with a friend last night and stood outside while she had a smoke, it didn't bug me.

I'm exercising 3 times a week right now just aquafit, the weather is keeping me from walking it's either too hot or raining, so I may have to just deal and walk anyway.

The food has not changed, I'm having a hard time with that, some days are super good and other days I just don't care. I'm trying to get a handle on it. I'm feeling almost like myself, the more confident one that lost 40lbs last summer, so I won't let this staggering news get me down, I'll use it to build strength and give me power, to take control.
  • Donna Sorry to hear your Dad and Uncle have Cancer. Here's a . My Dad had kidney cancer and had one recently removed. It could settle in his lungs so they have to watch him. He use to be a smoker. I am having the same problem. Were I have good days and bad days. I know I need to lose weight and improve my health. But, other days I just want to binge. Right now I'm trying to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. on not smoking and exercising. Just keep trying to have more good days with the food.
  • Donna and Vicky, sorry you have had bad news in your families. The best thing you can do right now is to take care of yourselves, it sounds like you are both trying to do that.
  • Sorry to hear that

I know how hard it is to quit smoking. I quit just about 3 years ago and never been happier!!

    Huggles
  • That's terrible news, but I definitely think the best you can do is resolve your own health concerns before they do to you what they have done to your dad and uncle. So many of these things are preventable or at least bettered by better health, and I think you are on the right track with the diet and exercise changes you are making again.

    good luck!
  • Big hugs from me for everyone going through such a hard time.
I really feel for you - it's the hardest thing there is to go through.
  • So sorry to hear about your family. Stay strong!
  • Sorry your family is going through this.
  • I am so sorry you are going through this.

I lost my grandmother AKA my very best friend to lung cancer in Sept of 07 and I was devastated but decided that quitting smoking after what she went through would make her proud of me and I would hopefully not put my kids through what I went through for something preventable.

If you need to vent or just want some tips for making quitting easier I am here.
