Hello from Western NY

  • I'm Sherrie, married 42 yrs, no kids, 2 dogs, and full-time caregiver to my mom (age 89)

I had always been a bit overweight but still in fairly good shape, could still do whatever I wanted. Walking, ride bicycle, hiking, play ball, skate, etc. No medical problems.

Turned 50, moved, changed jobs, spent the next 10 years sitting at a desk. A little at a time I gained more weight and became less active. By the time I retired to care for my mom, my blood pressure was a little high, I had a couple minor health issues, and I was totally out of shape.

Now at age 62, I've started exercising again, eating healthier, and trying to lose weight. My first goal is to get my blood pressure under control. No meds yet, trying first with weight loss and exercise(which is limited for awhile due to a knee injury).

I'm dieting at about 30% deficit for quick loss until I get below 200.
    I've lost 12lbs in 5 weeks. :

  • to 3FC. You are absolutely right - now is the time to get back in shape and you've made a good start. I have been dieting and exercising and my doc is taking me off my BP meds. I wish to heck I'd smartened up years ago - I'm 71!
  • Welcome. Since Chicks can be overwhelming at first, I suggest you look for a support group or challenge to join; a small group of friends to help keep you motivated. Find one you like that fits your needs, or inspires you, and just post to join.
  • Congrats on the weight loss so far.
