South beach phase 1 ??

  • Just wondering I heard during phase one of the south beach diet you can lose something like 8-13 lbs I was wondering if I did phase one and then went back to eating a low cal diet would that weight stay off or will it return when I go back to my normal diet
  • You would gain it back. If you have the time to rent/buy the book, it's a good read and will explain why -- this lifestyle is based on the glycemic index and going back to the foods that cane be included in a low cal diet (sugars, white pasta, white potatoes) will put back on what you lost.

Read the book, it may all click for you.

On top of which, there is no guarantee for the amount of weight-loss. Depending on what you need to lose, it may be 3 pounds but it's not all about the weight but changing the way you look at and think about food.

If you decide to read the book and want to try the beach, we're here for you!
  • South Beach is really considered a way of life. The quick weight loss in Phase 1 is a bonus, but really is mostly water weight along with some real fat. You can certainly do a low calorie version of South Beach if you watch and track, but SB is more about what kinds of foods you are eating rather than calories.
  • Yup, you would gain it all back. I will echo Jenn's advice- get the book. Paperback versions are pretty cheap, or you could check the library. Read it through and see if you think it's something you could stick with. For me, SB really makes sense and is an easy way of eating to keep up permanently. Of course it's not for everyone, but it's worth trying.

My book is copyright 2003. Is that the most recent?
  • Nope. The most recent is South Beach Diet Super Charged published in 2008.
