A little nervous and a little excited

  • For months now I had been having trouble with my navel because my stomach flap closes it up and I get rashes itching and a foul oder coming from it. So my PCP wrote me a letter of Med Ness. and I saw a plastic surgeon this morning and he felt I had a great chance of it being covered by our insurance which blew me away.He said I was an excellent canidate due to only having subcutanious fat and firm muscle underneath.

It will only take 2-3 weeks for a reply and once approved I will be scheduled right away. I'm hoping to be approved cause I'm tired of the rashes and smell and walking around scratching my belly like a caveman. But after reading what Angela went thru I'm scared too. Mine wont be the Fluerdelis it will be just regular paniculectomy.

I will keep everyone posted if it acctually happens, fingers crossed
  • Please forgive all my misspellings
  • I have only two things to say. one......

    OUCH!!!

Secondly, I'm glad I didn't know what the pain would be...I'm happy to have the thinner, less skin look. I am thinking that one day I might do the arms and breasts but the pain has only faded, its memory still lingers!!!!

    Fair warning, honey. It hurts!

  • Thanks Angela,
I feel I have a good respect of what I'm getting into and I'm not fooling myself especially from reading your post op posts.
I must tell you that the surgeon was impressed with my knowledge of the proceedure and where the majority of pain will come from. I told him about you and what you went thru.

One thing I wanted to ask you is if this happens is it agood idea to stock up on protien shakes do to loss of appitite from pain and pain medication? I'm worried about not getting the right nutrition after.

    Thanks for talking with me
  • Ohhh but think how happy you will be when its done.. CONGRATS !!
  • I did have issues about not enough food afterward but they were more my daughters worry; I was so out of it. Healing comes from great nutrition (Protein shakes would be a great idea!), rest and enough pain management...that's why I took the drugs even though I hadn't in the past. It really was the biggest, most invasive surgery I've had.

I'm so glad that my experience gave you some knowledge bass with which to talk to your surgeon...that makes me happy!

    Angela
  • Thanks Leenie for the words of encouragement....................and Angela that's for the advice I may be bugging you more if I get approved for surgery
  • anytime sweetheart! Glad to be of help.
