Truvia Sweetener Question

  • I just noticed an ad for this sweetener, went to their website to get more info, and saw that it shows 3 g carbs, in the form of erythritol. From the description of erythritol on the site, I wasn't sure if it was fiber and thus 0 g carbs or if it was a 3-g sweetener!

    Anyone know about this?

    TIA,
    Jane
  • erythritol is a sugar alcohol, like xylitol, or sorbitol or anything in "sugar free" products. It is a carb, but not a "sugar carb".... although large amounts have been shown to be able to spike blood sugar....... it also DOES have calories.....fyi

if you are low carbing, sometimes you can get away with not counting sugar alcohols as carbs, as long as you keep them in VERY small amounts, ie; ONE piece of gum a day, kind of thing...it shouldnt throw you out of ketosis, unless you consume more of it!
  • Thanks--that was what I thought might be true, but wanted to double check before trying to find that sweetener in local stores.
