Your Goal Weight ..... Mine was 150

  • Hey Everyone! My ideal goal weight was 150lbs. I'm 21years old and 5'7 inches. Well, I got some tests done and assessments made.... and according to them I'm actually 145lbs lean tissue which apparently women of the same height are usually only 110-120lbs of lean tissue...anyway. My new goal is now 170. According to some charts my ideal weight was like around 130 and less...which is bahhhhhhh scary. Also, we made the plan that over the year my goal is to put on 7lbs of muscle. yayyy I feel so good I got a set plan towards my goal.
  • That's awesome! I would love to hear that I am 20 pounds closer to my goal.
  • Congrats! That's great news? What kind of tests determined this? Sounds like something I would like to look into...
  • Congrats! You're doing awesome!
  • NICE!!! I think that is awesome!

I'd also be interested in hearing where you got this figured out. I know that I am a lot more muscle compared to others of my height and weight (some I'm sure, not all).
  • I thought it was normal for obese people to have greater muscle as well as greater fat-- since it takes more muscle to lug all that fat around.

    Call me confused...??
  • My doctor said I HAD much more muscle that I should have had due to lugging around 377 pounds day in and day out. My leg muscles were HUGE. And to expect muscle loss along with fat loss as I didn't need those gigantic muscles to support a much much smaller body... it's a theory anyways!
  • Congratulations, that is a very interesting, and , liberating idea !
  • I did the tests at my gym with my coach. He took measurements, weight, fitness tests, and some other machine that he connected to my arm. I didn't really ask him what it was I just accepted it for what it was. And yes, often people will lose muscle when they are losing weight, however, we are working to maintain it. It might be because I'm over weight or the fact that last year I was weight training in classes and I've always eaten alot of protein and never let my calories go low. Last year I did things on my own (which was great)... this year I have a coach/personal trainer.

    Cheers!

Momof5k, I did this at XtremeFitness ... not sure if there is one in Manitoba or not. Actually, the assessments are included in membership. You can google their site.....they're pretty pricey compared to other gyms though. I switched to this because they had a better location for me than where I was before.
  • Great idea on keeping your lean muscle and even building more. Go for it. I so wish I had dealt with my weight problem at 21.

Huh. How interesting. And it makes a lot of sense. I always thought it was strange I wasn't thinner given how much more effort it takes me to do everything I do. I mean with a house to keep clean and two young ones to run after...well you all know. It's nice to know there may yet be a little muscle under all this fat for my efforts. Here's to keeping it! LOL!
  • I just met with my personal trainer for the first time, and I could tell she was surprised about my baseline strength level, especially in my arms. I thought it was from swimming, but I guess it takes more strength just to lift up my fat arms all day too, LOL.
  • You definitely gain muscle when you gain fat, to support the extra weight you carry around. Imagine if you weighed 140 and had to carry a 50 pound weight around all day. You won't keep *all* that muscle. But if you do strength training, you'll keep more.
