Made my New Year's Day mini goal of 20 lbs!

  • Although I've only been posting for a week or so, I started this journey on 11/2/09 at 256 and am thrilled that I reached my personal mini goal of 20 lbs gone by 1/1/2010!!

I do my regular weigh ins on Mondays and was at 238 this week, so I wasn't sure it was reasonable to think I could lose 2 lb in 4 days but I did! I think partly because Monday was only a .5 loss and probably some water retention involved due to TOM.

But I also really ramped it up for the past 4 days with more activity and cutting my usual 1500 calories down to 1200. I'm not sure I'm going to try to maintain this pace - my overall goal is to change the way I live rather than "being on a diet" and I'm not shooting for the world's fastest weight loss here. But it was also great to prove to myself what I could do and know that I can go down to 1200 calories with a little extra planning and slightly different choices. I'm thinking that most likely, I'll try to alternate some 1200 days each week with my 1500 days and hope that helps keep my body on a happy and steady weight loss pace.

Here's hoping we all meet our goals in 2010!

  • woo-hoo, good job!
  • Congratulations, PeanutsMom! What a great accomplishment!
  • That's fantastic. I've been at this since Sept 15 and I haven't quite reached 20 yet.
  • thanks newleaf and Petra!!

Petra, are you happy with your pace? Nothing wrong with slow and steady! but fwiw, Fitday has been a huge help for me - I do well with journalling and I'm also enough of a geek to like all the various tracking reports it has, like seeing my daily and average breakdown of carb/fat/protein and tracking my nutrition.
  • Fantastic!
  • thanks Cassieroll and WLW (sorry I missed you before!)
  • I haven't started changing my lifestyle yet, I figured I'd get past the holidays first--but I hope I do as well as you! Congratulations! Thanks for posting, too.
  • thanks entrepa!

I don't think it matters when you start, just that you are starting!
  • Congrats! Hope that's just one of many goals that you achieve!
  • thanks OMW!

(I'm looking forward to being here long enough to be able to have a ticker and signature and track some of these goals! lol!)
  • Congrats! Maybe alternating 1500 and 1200 calories helps tweak your metabolism?
  • (weird, I could swear I posted back!)

    Anyway, thanks L80!

I do think that alternating/calorie cycling is beneficial. I'm still on my stress diet though (from the car crashing through my garage), and trying to see if I can make myself eat enough to hit 1000 calories. Normally, I'd think not wanting to eat is a good thing but I don't want to mess up my metabolism by going too low.
