  • Ok, I am not here to bash Tiger Woods...I think the media has been doing a great job of that.

A few things have come up that bother me ~

#1 ~ The Los Angeles Times ran an article yesterday in the sports page, written by David Wharton (I couldn't find it to post here) anyway, he mentioned David Rosen and his book "Sex Scandal America"...Rosen says that the expectation that celebrities should openly atone for private behavior dates at least back to the Puritans....calls it the ritual of public shaming.

(Wharton) Originally , this practice intended-rightly or wrongly-to preserve social convention, but Rosen believes any such trappings may have fallen away.

(Rosen) Now we're at the tail end of the morality tale. We're just watching it as entertainment. There's no moral grab."

#2 ~ The one gal that came out and admitted at an affair with Tiger first, was shown last night on television....at a club I think(?)...anyway she was all smiles...her reply to the camera "No comment".....

No comment?...she sure had A LOT to say the day before...to anyone that would listen!!

#3 ~ I heard something on the news this morning...sorry can't remember who said it...but the person said that these stars are usually watched by someone that takes care of them, when that stops they get into all kinds of trouble...Tiger's dad in this case..after his dad died there was no one there for Tiger (guess his wife doesn't count )...anyway he called it Professional Sports Star Syndrome...

    sa-weet..."it" has a name

I am not a big fan of Tiger...greatest golfer ever...arrogant on the course IMHO

Why do we watch and care about this stuff? Is it REALLY entertainment?
  • He is the KOBE of golf.Athough in this case it seems that the women have consented to the sex.Tiger obviously does not have a moral compass...at least they have not claimed rape (yet anyway).
  • i was wondering that myself. i thought it was rather weird that the articles that i kept seeing popping up about him were under the entertainment section. when did being an athlete make you an entertainer?

i just can't stand the way people are prying into the private lives of any celebrities. not only do i not care what they are doing, smoking, having sex with, eating, lying about, etc- but it really isn't relevant to who they are or their profession.

Frankly, unless Tiger Woods is having sex with women on the green during a game- I couldn't care less.
  • Remind me again why I care about his sex life?
  • I heard a good joke on the radio today...

What the difference between an SUV and a golf ball?

Tiger can drive a golf ball more than 100 yards.

But to answer you question. Yes, it has become a form of entertainment for people. Most people will admit that they do not care... but at the end of the day it's just something to distract us from our own lives.

You may not care Julie...but for years people have paid big money to be close enough to Tiger to yell..."put it in the hole!"....
  • This is why I don't watch the news. I had no idea Tiger had a sex scandal... and I'm quite alright with being out of the celebrity gossip loop. I heard about the wreck because it was scrolling across the screen during the game last week.
  • For Gary...
My hubby just emailed me this:

Tiger's Family Pic 4 the Holidays
  • Love it CATHY!

That's great, I am going to have to tell DH that one!
  • Personally, I do not care to know about celebrity personal lives any more than I would want someone putting my life under a microscope. People have not changed and wealthy and/or powerful individuals have always had plenty of opportunities to stray from their marriage vows - and frequently did. Shoot, at different times in history, it was almost expected for a wealthy person to have both a spouse and a lover. It's entertainment now because we have been willing to surrender our own privacy and civility more and more as time goes by.

I second that. (But hey, EZMONEY, great comeback!)

I had to laugh when I noticed that one of the alleged squeezes has the same last name as me!
  • So now Tiger has about 10 "alleged" girlfriends...

mother in law rushed to hospital...

Officers reported he had been drinking before the accident...

a lot of "alleged" cover-ups going on...

his wife bought a house in Sweden last week...

Here is my "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon"....the first gal that "admitted" an affair, the one with the taped phone call, is a local gal...my son coached against her when she was a high school hurdler in track...

and there you have it...my 30 seconds of fame....got 14 minutes 30 seconds coming....
  • Very sad for his wife and kids.Trust me...he will claim "sex addiction"....damage control.Jerk.
  • are we STILL on this topic?! tsk.
