Why won't the desire for cake just go away?

  • There was a retirement party at work this afternoon and I had a plan. I ate my normal lunch with some extra water so that I wasn't hungry when I went to the party. I ate fruit and a few nuts but I still wanted some of that $#@! cake. Why won't the desire for cake just go away??

As Robin says, just because I want it does not mean that I have to have it!

I got past today and now the leftover cake will be in the office for a couple of days.

My achilles heel, cake but I won't touch a bite. Hands and mouth off. Decision made!
  • Tell me when you find out!

Although, I have at least gotten pickier. I find it fairly easy now to pass up cakes from box mixes now.
  • You can do it!

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! My husband's aunt made this amazing cake and I only had half a slice- I had to sneakily throw the rest of it away! His family is the type that gets offended if you don't eat.
  • I am a cake decorator and staying away from the cake is the HARDEST thing for me, so I feel you. I can't give you any suggestions or advice because nothing to me cuts the craving for cake. Maybe go for a run or watch a movie, lol. Sorry! You can do it though!
  • I wish I knew! Cake is my biggest weakness...sounds like you have handled today as well as you could.
  • I wish I knew how to stay away from sweets in general. Its my weakness
  • I had a piece of cake from a block party about a week ago. It was AWFUL! Oh my--nothing but petroleum and sugar. Ugh. Horrible.

Next time you are in the store, pick up a box of cake mix and read the ingredients. Then tell yourself, how much you miss xanthar gum (or whatever!). The put it down, walk away and pat yourself on the back.
  • While that cake is sitting in the breakroom overnight, cockroaches have strolled across it...

There, bet you don't want a piece of that cake tomorrow.

Yes! And flies have landed on it and there are now maggot eggs on it, with little maggots waiting to be hatched.

Do you still want to eat a piece of cake with baby maggot larvae and cockroach footprints in it?
  • Jeez, /\ that was really gross! It turns my stomach. I grossed my own self out! lol

But what I started doing to avoid stuff like that was to put conditions on it.

I will only eat cake if it is a really, really good high quality piece of cake. But I really don't care for cake to much but I do like Ice cream. So the only time I eat ice cream is if I have some dang good quality ice cream. I want something that I can savor and is so rich I can only tolerate a few bites. This works for me so far. The other thing I do is plan for it. Plan, Plan, Plan.... This is how my life works now. I used to not be a planner and my life was a mess. Not so much anymore.
  • When you figure it out... let me know. I HAVE to stay away from cake or the sugar demon's come on out...
  • I can say no to a bakery cake no problem. I loathe the digusting icing. Put a homemade cake in front of me, and I need to walk in the opposite direction.

That did it! I will think of this tomorrow and it should make resisting easier!
  • I love cake, too, but most store-bought cake from places like Costco is really gross so I don't have trouble with that. Unlike others, I love the sickly sweet icing that grocery store bakeries do. So I just have to remind myself that I am just passing up on the cake this time around. There will always be more cake. Always. I am just choosing to not have it this time. Usually this works for me.

    Glad we could help!
