% Body Fat

  • This confuses me. Can someone explain this to me a little better? I went to the gym and had a fitness assessment and my % body fat was 45%. My weight was 265 then. Does that mean if I weighed 145, I would be 0% body fat? I know that's not possible and that's not what I want. She said that was my core weight (like the muscles and bones and such) I want to set a realistic goal weight. My trainer said my body fat should be between 18-24%. Does this mean I need to weigh around 180?

GOSH, I am so confused!!! Please help if you can!
  • Lean Body Mass includes water, cells, muscles, bones, etc. As you lose weight, you also lose muscle, water and cells that are used to support your heavier weight. So your lean body mass will go down as you lose weight. You just need to monitor your body fat percentage as you lose weight. Once you start getting into the lower 20s, it'll be easier to gauge.
  • Thank you very much! I get it now!
