PMS and Caffiene

  • Lately my PMS has been off the charts. Lets just say I do my best to stay away from people at that time as I am prone to violent outburst and feel like I have the flu. So, I went to my doctor and he put me on the pill. I felt like, certainly there has to be something more that can be done about this, so I started reading up on it on the web. I found a number of links stating the effects of caffiene can have alot to do with PMS and it's severity. Particularly how caffiene deplets the body of B vitamins, and the lack of B vitamins can make PMS symtoms worse. Then I found a number of other links that state otherwise. Stating that there was no effect, and it's not proven.

I am skeptical enough about the medical community to question most of the things they try to tell people, and find that the opinon of my fellow females on these matters are generally more accurate.

So my question is this, has anyone had their PMS syntoms reduced by elimating or reducing caffiene? Is there any other words of advice you could give me to help reduce and/or get rid of these symtoms? (I realize they may not all go away, but if I can get this down to a control-able level, I would be happy with that)

Thank you in advance for all your kind advice.
  • I was finally diagnosed with PMDD and what helped me most (really changed my life) was going on Seasonale as a birth control pill. I realize this doesn't help if you want to avoid medication altogether, but I feel compelled to talk about how my life changed. My life SUCKED for 10 days out of every month. ONE THIRD of my life sucked! Forget weight loss. My body just refused to work during that time. My moods were out of control. Now, I go through a modified version, more like PMS than PMDD, just four times a year. I realize this won't work for everyone, but I just wanted to let you know.
  • Will I tried the pill and boy! my moods were better but my blood presure flew through the roof! So I am off them and the doctor put me on sarafem. I figured better a pill then back where I was. I am still cutting the caffiene down and that seems to help a little.
