I only jog, but last week I was speaking to a friend who's all buff and in the navy and is REALLY into weightlifting (like, he's studied all the scientific aspects of it, because he's like that), and he insists that I should be doing 15-20 minutes of high intensity weight training twice a week.
The thing is, I don't belong to a gym because I jog outside, so it seems kind of pointless to sign up for a gym for 40 minutes a week of working out. Then again, I guess once winter comes I'll need someplace to jog . . .
The past two weeks I've been doing almost exclusively cardio. I run 3 times a week, and do a workout DVD (Jillian Michaels' "Banish Fat Boost Metabolism") 3 times a week.
The DVD is supposed to be just cardio, and it's all body weight exercises, but my upper body is so weak that just doing that many things in plank position has really helped me gain strength. So I can't really say I'm ONLY doing cardio.
I'm losing weight more quickly and more consistently than I was before, but I can't give all the credit to my new exercise routine, since I'm also keeping better track of my eating. But I think that for now, it's exactly what I need. I'll probably start to add back more strength training as I lose more weight.
