  • What gives? I've dropped 20 and im still wearing the same jeans. Is this normal? I didn't think I would be a size 10 overnight, but still size 18 after losing 20 pounds? Was I just stuffing myself into the 18's over the fear of being a 20? I hope not. Has this happened to anyone else?
  • Hi Seashell,

I don't have an answer. But, I can affirm that you are not the only one. I started at 267 lbs two years ago. I was wearing a 24. I went down to 222 and I still wore the size 24. I WAS discouraged. But, I think it really depends on where our fat cells shrink first.

Now this year (Jan.) I started at 247lbs and wore the same 24. But, so far this year I have lost down to 213 and I can wear most 20's and some 18's. So just keep on and eventually the clothes sizing will start to follow your lead. I haven't shopped for any jeans, I have just been making shopping excursions in the back of my closet. I'm 5'4 213 lbs and we will say a 20 now. This kind goes with the posts comparing weights and sizing.

It am guessing it is a part of the list of things that everyone notes as part of perserverance. Jusy keep wearing your jeans - - - one day they will just fall off. But, don't stop! Keep going so that you can get the pleasure of saggy jean bottoms and secretly contemplating getting rope to hold your "britches" up! I love reading posts from those who say they can keep their pants on or that people are calling them "saggy bottoms". It will happen just make your mind to out last those stubborn jeans!
  • I started at 244lbs. I was stuffed into a pair of size 18W pants. They were stretchy and the only ones that I could squeeze into, because to be HONEST, I was more a size 22-24. I still fit those size 18W pants at 195lbs. 54lbs!!! Same size!!!
    Since then:
    190 lbs -- size 16
    185 lbs -- size 14
176 lbs -- size 12, with the odd size 14 and size 10 mixed it...BUT, when I took my size 16 jeans right out of a hot dryer, they still fit. But after 5 minutes, when the fibers relax, they slide right off...

Don't worry about the number size. Stick with the program and you will see results, but maybe not just as fast nor as regularly as you would like!!!

  • I think I was probably into the mid to high 30s lost before most of my clothes were too big - mainly because everything was extra-stretched before!
Suddenly one day my butt vanished and just recently my belly vanished. OK, with 47lbs to go, the vanishing butts and bellies are only comparative but there was a tipping point where one day everything fit, since then almost every day brings a new closet treasure!
  • The pants were probably tighter than you realized when you word them. I am down 30 pounds and STILL fit into my size 16 jeans, they are definately loose but I could totally pull off wearing them. HOWEVER, when I went shopping for pants, I did notice I could go down in size (if I wanted to), now, those pants would be a little snug, i.e. - the size 13's Im wearing right now, but you will get there. Remember, the first 10 pounds is usually "water weight" in the beginning, not "fat".
  • It's the height, love. I'm the same way. Consider it the trade off for the privilege of not looking like you weigh what you weigh!
  • Keep it up- I started as a size 18 and now am a 16 and have been there a while- I got a few size 14 jeans I'm longingly looking at- but SOON I'll be able to put them on!
  • Have you tried on the next size down to see if you can fit into them?

I know that I stuff myself into stuff I probably shouldn't wear, but I refuse to buy a larger size right now. I WILL get this weight off!
  • I've dropped more than 25 and am still in the same jeans. They aren't as stretched and a little baggier in the leg but they are the same jeans.

Of course, I'm fairly certain these pairs were fairly large cuts because I somehow managed to stay a size 20 over the course of 40 pounds. Yeah, right. That was possible in the real world.
  • Yep, it's the height! It took me like 40-50 lbs before I went down a pant size! My best friend is 5'3", and if she loses 5-10 lbs she needs new clothes!
  • I have been wearing pretty much the same clothes for 3 years.. this is through going from a low of 172lbs up to a high of 213lbs. with a pregnancy in there too. Some clothes just are more flexible than others.

That being said, I have lost 34lbs. and went from 213lbs, size 18 to just buying a new pair of jeans this week, at 179lbs, size 16. Pretty sad I know.. but for the most part the weight I've lost has been on my face, arms and waist.. my hips and bum are getting smaller, but just not at the same rate.
  • It happened to me too, just a little bit more and it should be a new size. Good news is the smaller you get, the closer the sizes get. It took me a long time to get from 20 to 18, a little less from 18 to 16, and probably only 10 lbs to get to a 14 (it's a tight 14 right now though). 5 more lbs should be a comfortable 14 for me. All that to say--just hang on, it gets better.
  • I'll bet if you go to a store and try on the lower size, you'll fit into them easily.

But, I'm the same way. Almost to 20 lbs lost and I still have the same jeans. They are getting really baggy, but I think they were also VERY tight before.
  • I am wearing all the same jeans that I wore at 250. They were uncomfortable at 250, but just right around 235, and they are still feeling just right at 219 but I can tell they are getting loose. I can't wait to go down a size. I think it's going to happen soon. Just be patient, keep going, and you will get there!!!
  • it's such a weird phenomenon! I swear I have a pair of "magic" pants!!! they fit at 323 and STILL fit about 50 lbs later LOL
