New Chick

  • Hello All

I'm Pook, I'm new to South Beach and I'd like to say hi! I'm 35, married to a man who makes me laugh, I work in administration, have no kids, 1 cat and 1 dog.

I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), insulin resistance and am pre-diabetic. How about that?! Was diagnosed last year and didn't take the news very well, it's taken me a year to get my butt in gear and start dealing with it.

I'll probably be asking lots of questions and will get round to posting a bio in the near future in the bio thread, in the meantime it's nice to meet you all!
  • Hi Pook..Welcome! I too have PCOS. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I'm not insulin resistant, but the doctor said I have slightly impaired glucose tolerance. I know exactly how depressing and frustrating it can be. There's a great section here in the Dieting with Obstacles section designated for women with PCOS. I found that pretty helpful when first diagnosed. I also found that the South Beach Diet is the best way to go for me personally because of my health issues. If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me. When I was first diagnosed I kind of became obsessed with researching the condition...so I'm pretty knowledgeable about it so if you ever have questions maybe I can help.
  • Pook....ask those questions and we'll answer as best we can.
We always ask..."have you read the book yet?". The book really explains why and how this WOE works...and it DOES work!!!
    Welcome, Welcome!
  • Hi Pook to the Beach!

I'm still pretty new here but am making great progress reading the book, eating right and getting lots of support from everyone I meet.

    Best Wishes!
  • Thanks for the welcomes .

I've had a bit of a look around the forums, is there a "food check" thread of sorts? A thread where folks can post what they've eaten lately? I've read the book and will be constantly referring to it throughout I imagine as there's lots to take in.

Jerseygirrl - nice to meet a fellow PCOS'er! I'm sure you'll be hearing from me at some point or another .
  • Pook, just post your foods eaten in the Phase I thread and we can give you feedback on it. I get a lot more from this website than I did from the book!
  • Let me add my . I wish I had smartened up when I was your age but they hadn't heard of PCOS and IR way back then. This Lifestyle will certainly helps with our physical problems.
  • Hi Pook Welcome! I'm new here as well, and this is a great bunch of people, always helpful and encouraging. I think you'll like it here, I do
  • Welcome!!!!
  • to The Beach, Pook!
  • Pook! This is a great place for support and information. You may also want to post in the 3FC PCOS thread for help directly with that issue, though we certainly have several PCOS sufferers here in SBD.

Glad to have you with us!
  • Hi Pook! i am also PCOS and that is one of the mail reasons I whant to get ridd of this weight. Also 35 but not merried. Today was my first day on SB. Please hump in on the wagon :-)
  • Newbie too
Hi Pook! I'm new too...a little scared of the high fat of the diet, but I'm trying. I know it's not necessarily bad fat but society has made us scared of the F-word.

I'm a carb freak. I didn't think I could ever live without bread and cereal, but ever since I started, my cravings have subsided.

It's been a few days and I feel a little blah. I think I ate too many nuts though. Will eating too many nuts actually cause you to gain in Phase 1?
  • Hi Pook! I as well suffer from PCOS. I was diagnosed last september and have been in serious denial since then. I finally decided to get my butt in gear and get the weight off. I am on day 2 of SBD and so far so good...hope to see you around!!
  • Welcome!
