Twisted Ankle....Gym?

  • Hello Ladies!

So last week I decided I would raise a level on my step during step class and it turned out to be a great workout! Around comes Friday- mid class I fall and twist my ankle to where it got super swollen and I couldn't even wear closed shoes.

I AM better but I was wondering if its too soon to go to the gym?

It is still a bit swollen and hurts a little..Suggestions?

    Thank you ladies
  • You can go, just stretch really well and do something low impact. Try to keep excessive weight off of it and keep jarring motions to a minimum until the swelling goes down or you could tear something. Ride the stationary bike, work on your upper body and abs. When you get home, stretch it again, soak it in some hot water and epsom salt, and then ice it for 20 minutes before you go to bed. It should be good as new in a day or two.

I've got tarsal coalition (the bones in my ankle are fused) and I sprain and twist it constantly since I have no side to side motion in it. The best thing to do is keep it moving. Walk it off, as it were. Hope this helps.
  • I am getting over a broken ankle, so I understand not wanting to go back to the gym too soon. I would suggest using the exercise bike. It is a good cardio workout with very little impact.
  • Thanks ladies!!

That's great advice, I hadn't even thought of the bike!
  • PAIN IS BAD. I ignored pain and ended up doing more damage to my leg and it took months to heal.

Personally I wouldn't do that particular exercise, do do something easy on the foot for a while. How about rowing?
