LATE Mid-Week Boost 1/23

  • Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
    Matthew 10:29

    The Little Things

Ever get frustrated by an annoying fly or a gnat?
Its the smallest of things, but it can consume all of your thoughts when its buzzing around your face.

The little things in life can be much like this.

    We might over schedule.

Perhaps there's just one too many bills this month.

Maybe your car acts up when simply don't have the funds to get it fixed.

Perhaps friends or family visit at the most inopportune time.

These are all just little annoyances... the little gnats of life. But they are enough to grab our attention.

And in the mean time, we aren't thinking about God and trusting in Him.

We are not thinking about His love for us.

We are not thinking about how the Babe of Bethlehem,
the all-powerful God, who gave up everything to become a little helpless baby
so that He could experience everything that we experience and struggle with in this life.

You know...the shepherds in Jesus' day made a salve for their sheep and put it on the faces of the sheep when the gnats got bad. It repelled the gnats, and gave the sheep a rest from the annoyance.

God is our Good Shepherd. He cares about those little things too. He cares about the little things in life that can keep us from focusing on Him. He cares about the stress of over scheduling. He cares about the anxiety over a silly car.
He even cares about the grief poorly timed company can cause us.

For those annoyances, for those gnats in our life, God has provided a salve.

The salve He gives us is His Word, which strengthens our faith in Christ.

When we hear His Word as its preached in the worship service, God is rubbing our faces with a little salve.

When we read God's word for ourselves, or with our family in devotion, God is protecting us with His salve.

When we take part in Holy Communion, God is protecting us from the little annoyances of life.

Yes, God does care about the little things, because He cares about us.

God -- who created and controls all of nature, still knows us intimately,
loves us unconditionally and pays attention to the smallest detail in our lives.

    Food for thought....

    BEYOND OUR SUN.
    IT'S A BIG UNIVERSE.

ANTARES IS THE 15TH BRIGHTEST STAR IN THE SKY. IT IS MORE THAN 1000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY.

THIS IS A HUBBLE TELESCOPE ULTRA DEEP FIELD INFRARED VIEW OF COUNTLESS 'ENTIRE' GALAXIES BILLIONS OF LIGHT-YEARS AWAY.

BELOW IS A CLOSE UP OF ONE OF THE DARKEST REGIONS OF THE PHOTO ABOVE.

    And yet, God knows how many hairs are on your head;
and, not even a single sparrow dies apart from His will.
    (Mt. 10:29-31)

How big are the gnats that upset you today?

AND HOW BIG IS OUR GOD?

    IT'S ALL UNDER GOD'S CONTROL

  • Good reminders, Gary. Reading it brought to mind a saying from our youth pastor-'If Satan can't make you bad, he'll make you busy.' Keeps us from our true focus. Thanks alot!
  • Gary, thank you so much. I always appreciate your spiritual wisdom.
  • Thanks BARGOO but just a reminder ~ I do have input from time to time but these midweek boosts are a product of several people at our church....I can't take any credit other than the opportunity to pass them along.
  • OH and sorry if this one is a bit confusing....there were several pictures of planest and such that did not show up when I posted.
