I am so sad those signature hot chocolate from Starbucks are so insane. I got my mom a small salted caramel hot chocolate during our visit and I had a sip - soooo yummy.
  • 1450 calories for an EGGNOG SHAKE???

Now, I know eggnog as well as milkshakes are loaded with calories, but never would I imagine 1,450 calories.

No wonder this country has a weight problem. I consider myself pretty informed and good at eyeballing calories, but that blows my mind. I would never guess.
  • Glory - I felt that way too...until I realized that, instead of that drink, I could have 8-10 of the lovely Fran's Grey Salt Caramels for the same calorie load. So much more satisfying!
  • Sheesh, that's insane! And we wonder why Americans are so overweight. The gap between restaurant food and real food is getting bigger and bigger. I know my taste buds are making some serious adjustments going from fast "food" to whole food. It's crazy that one drink, or one sandwich has more calories than most people need in a day.
  • It totally blows my mind too! I always read nutrition informaton everywhere I go so I can make informed choices, but some of those stats for a drink are for a full day's worth of calories! Unbelieveable!
  • I went to Starbucks at the airport the other day and I saw the hot chocolate salted caramel and thought it sounded good. Although I ended up discovering a new favorite, soy chai tea misto. Basically heated up soy milk with a chai tea bag in it.
  • Thank goodness I have ordered NONE of that stuff!

Even when I go to Jamba Juice I get the low cal drinks OR the smallest size.

I remember once going to jamba and some girl asking for some chocolate drink with a "fat burner" boost lol. I was like are you SERIOUS??????

The ONLY thing I considered ordering this year was the nachos- but I love taco bell! I usually get one of their bowls, water, and that's it lol. When I go home I grab some fruit or something and my hubby's like "well we just ate" and I'm like correction, I had a 500 calorie bowl, you had a burrito, two tacos, a LARGE soda that you REFILLED, and some cheesy potatoes- well over 1000 calories so let me have my apple!

I eat out so rarely now that I tend to get something small when I eat out then grab a snack at home
  • I can truthfully say that I've never tasted anything on that list.

That certainly does not mean I haven't had something similar, though.
  • That's true- but I know I've cut down- I used to get the largest size combo's I could- hey it was ONLY 79 cents (or whatever) to upgrade - didn't cost a lot of cash- just my health.

Now when I go out I get small size combos if I get one at all.

Oh I LOVE the Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate. I got ONE back in November, I think. YUMMY.
  • This is really shocking

A whole days worth of calories in one egg-nog shake, UNREAL!
  • I don't think I ever supersized a combo but have gotten multiple mains with my fries, like a filet of fish and a chick sandwich at mcd's so I'm no angel. Those days are over now though, and there is nothing on that list that would even interest me. Esp the burgers, yuck, they look terrible.
  • I saw the ad for the KFC fully loaded box. It looked disgusting. Now to see the nutritional info makes it more so.

How can Romano's Macaroni justify 94 gm of fat in a salad?! I can't stand that place anyway, so all the more reason to not go there.

Olive Garden sucks as well, so I avoid them, too.

I don't like coffee or coffee drinks (well, if it has chocolate and Kahlua in it), so I don't drink them. I think I had one in the mid 90s.

    Thanks for this list.
  • Oh man, I got this hot espresso truffle thing at Starbucks when I went back up to the DC area. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, so after a few sips, I gave it to my friend. I knew it probably had an insane amount of calories and decided that was not worth it. Plus, my friend loved it and savored every sip like it was the big "O" in a cup, so everybody won!

cbmare - Oh, kahlua and chocolate... I think I drooled a little That... and Baileys!!
  • I'm not saying that I would not eat (or drink) any of those foods on that list (especially the burgers) - BUT - now that I know how to make healthy alternatives, I rarely eat out anymore. The amount of calories, fat, and sodium in prepared foods is absolutely amazing. I eat 1400 calories in an entire day, not just ONE MEAL!
