c25k?

  • I know there is a couch to 5K on the 20 something board but Im not 20 something ...lol So anyways, I participated in a 5K on Friday and I had to walk it. Well there is another one in 5 weeks and I DO NOT want to walk it this time. The Couch to 5K is a 9 week program but I will just work up to where I can in the 5 weeks. i can only improve from the last 5k right?...lol
  • I've never attempted it, but kudos to you for trying it. I decided not to go with the couch to 5k and so what I do is run for a minute and then walk for a minute and alternate. Following all of these plans in numbers of days and weeks makes me want to give up so I do this running and walking for 20 mins as my HIIT three to four times a week...so far so good.

    Anyway, I think you'll do better for sure if you start practicing now. Good luck with this!

  • Well, i did week one, day one today. it as harder than I thought it would be.

  • Week 1, day 2 completed today. I was supposed to do it yesterday but I forgot. One Monday, I did it wrong, I did 30second jog with 90second walk, it was supposed to 60second jog. I did 60second jog today. My husband went with me and did my timing for me, I liked that. It was so hard, I don't think I would have pushed through with out my hubby. not sure how I am going to week 2 with traveling. my parents area isn't good for jogging, at least not for me. I think i will go try a high school track.


    edit- no finding a track. its going to be cold and raining while we are there.
  • I had to skip week 1 day3, missed a week entirely but did week 2 day 1 today. It was so hard, I dont know if i would have stuck it out if hubby hadn't been there to support me.
  • I have been thinking about starting this myself soon. I am thinking about trying to get into the police academy (thought about it a lot when I was in my 20s), and you definitely have to run with them. So, I might start this next week. Was going to try to do the one minute of running on the treadmill then walking deal that they do on Biggest Loser, but have to see which works better for me.
  • I started the program in September and I definitely go at my own pace. I did day one for an entire week just to get through it, but I am much happier. I think if I had continued on the schedule before I was ready I would have given up. You can also search on Itunes for free podcasts of c25k workouts you can download free on an mp3 player. Finding one I really liked helped to keep me on pace and motivated during the runs, even when I wanted to quit. I still have not completed the program, but I am so much farther along than I ever thought I would be. Hope this helps!
  • well I'm done with week 2, day 2. It seemed a little easier than day 1. My husband and I went to Navy base and ran the track there, i didnt even know that had one...LOL It seemed a little easier with having a marked track so I knew my distance. the 90second, 2min interval for 20min was about 1.5 miles. I think I might have to repeat week2, I just don't think I will be ready for week 3 next week.
  • My suggestion, take it at your own pace. If you are not ready to move to the next week, do not move to the next week. If you move to a week that you are not ready for it will discourage you. I have gone through it once to get ready for my first 5k and I had to do a few of the weeks a couple of times.

    Good luck to you and congrats for doing your first 5k!! I did my first 5k a month before my 30th birthday.
  • I did horrible today trying to do my Couch to 5K. I decided to repeat week 2, jogging 90sec and walking 2min, even though I did well with it last week, I did horrible today. My legs felt excessively heavy, I got out of breath really quickly, had pain in my left leg above my ankle, the toe I broke about 8 weeks or so ago was hurting. I just don't understand what went wrong today when last week went so well
  • I would love to be able to run one of these days, afraid to try due to lower back pain. Degenerative disc disease and arthritis don't want to hurt any more than I already do. I'm 35 and have had back problems since turning 30. I envy all you who can run.
  • I am a big supporter of the C25K. It worked for me! But it WAS hard. My best advice is to make sure you do it 3 times a week, no excuses. Whenever I would skip a planned day, it was always harder the next time around. I also had lots of aches and pains, but that is expected. Your body is not used to this new extream exercise. Just stick with it! Inserts really helped me with my ankle pain! Congratulations for not being afarid to start something new!!!

    I have bad back, bad knees and bad ankle. I broke my right leg in 3 places a few yrs ago, ankle, above my ankle and knee. I was told then I need a knee replacement but that I was too young to get one. It hard on me but I am very determined to do it.
