coming out of the lurker closet.

  • hello! i have been reading for about a month and love the energy and support here. i am not sure i have much to contribute but i agree with much of what i read so i guess there is that! i really came out of the closet so i can get a TICKER! I crave positive reinforcement and visual is one of the best for me.

i did have a major accomplishment yesterday. i have been walking on the treadmill everyday for 30 days for about 45 min to an hour at 3.5 mph. i do this at work (we have workout room) and there is only one treadmill. usually i am totally alone in there but sometimes there is someone else waiting to use it. this is uncomfortable for me cause i feel i should cut my workout short and dont want to. there are 2 ellipticals tho. i tried one early on and it was just TOO difficult. turns out the is a big (really big) button labeled resistance. silly me!
so yesterday i decided i was going to conquer the elliptical! i knew i couldnt do the 50-60 min that i can on the treadmill but i was going to do the best i could.

    I DID IT!

two 15 min bouts at the lowest resistance and then 5 more min at which point i thought i was going to puke. then did 15 min more on treadmill.

i am so freaking proud of myself!!
    will do the same tomorrow!

    nice to meet everyone!!

  • Welcome aboard, and congrats on your NSV!
  • Quote: .... at which point i thought i was going to puke.
that was a very realistic description of a point where I have been also

but more importantly CONGRATULATIONS and now you know you have the choice of the treadmill or the elliptical! And hopefully no one pressures you on YOUR time for exercising. I would do something like stick a paper on the door before I started - "Holly on treadmill from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm" to sort of stake out your time.

I found that when i added using the elliptical to my routine, it really, really sped things up, with the cardio workout and leg muscle work.

Big congrats again! Yay! You SHOULD be proud!
  • Woo Hoo! Good for you! Isn't wonderful when we can push ourselves and our bodies and exceed our expectations? Keep up the great work.
  • Welcome and congrats on the exercise!
  • heh heh heh ... I feel your pain. I bought a rowing machine, one of your cheaper ones, but still high dollar for my budget, and I thought, "I'll just start off slowly, with 15 minutes before work in the mornings and then gradually increase." BWA HA HA HA .... First time??? 3 minutes 20 seconds. AND, I had to stop and catch my breath!! I'm a week into my diet and I'm up to ..... wait for it ...... 6 minutes and 30 seconds. So TWO fifteen minute sessions, a five minute session AND THE TREADMILL!!! You so totally rock!! I think I actually WOULD have puked. Congrats on beating that darn elliptical into submission. By the end of May I might be at like ... heck, I don't know eight whole minutes or something. :-) Rowing machine, I OWN YOU!
  • welcome Sherri!!! great to have you here and i love your first post! get posting away and you can have that ticker, i looked at your stats and congratulations so far you are doing so well!!
  • I think you did fantastic!! The first time I got on the eliptical was 3 months ago...I thought I could do it, I ended up doing less than a minute and decided it wasn't for me. I was determined, so the next day I did 5 minutes and have slowly pushed my self up since then. Now I do anywhere from 40min-1hour--5 days a week. I have also built up the resistance and incline since then and I am still working on that. I love it now, but I still have to push myself to increase me level.
    Great job!!!
  • Welcome to 3FC and the 100lb club.

SO glad you've come out of lurkdom. Jump right in.

    Fantastic news about the treadmill.
  • I am impressed with your going into the gym at work! I haven't really gotten up the courage to do that on a regular basis. I try it from time to time, but then just feel fat compared to everyone else and stop going.

Welcome! And how do you make yourself go?
  • thanks for the welcome.

and i will conquer that puny elliptical!

one day..............i will be able to do a hour at incline 10 and resistance 10.

of course, i WILL puke after and then will have to see if i can do it the next time too.
  • Sherri,

Congrats on the elliptical, but I am so impressed that you are exercising so regularly and so long! That is fantastic!

  • Sherri, Welcome! I am glad that you decided to delurk. Congratulations on the elliptical. I am way impressed by your workouts. I aspire to get on a regular workout routine. You are doing great. I hope to see more of you around. You could be the motivation that I have been needing to start working out more.
  • You've found a great place. I've attempted the elliptical twice and I'm still not very fond of it. i plan on giving it a go a couple more times before I fully decide it's not for me
  • Sherri! And, congrats on conquering the eliptical!
