crystal light = water?

  • this may sound like an extraordinarily simple, elementary question, but i can count crystal light toward my daily water intake, right? if not, i've really been cheating myself, cause i'm drinking gallons of it!
  • I drink Lipton's Green Tea To Go-- 0 calories, and that's what I'm counting.

    Crystal Light is the same thing. I'd absolutely count it as water, you wouldn't say you're taking in less water if you pounded back the package of powder on it's own and drank a bottle of water an hour later.

    That stuff's SO good.

    As for it counting as water, I only know what WW recommends -- that you can count non-water, non-caffienated beverages as HALF of your daily water intake. So I can drink 8 glasses of Crystal light but should only count 4 of those towards my daily water goal.

    I don't even know why it's a rule, though. At least it's something, you know?
  • Some people seem to think otherwise, but I'd say, yes, definitely count it as water. The flavoring added to it doesn't make it any less water than it was without the flavoring.
  • I always count it towards my water. I use slim quick powders, crystal light, and iced tea to go and I count all of those as water. I also drink plain water, but you get the idead

  • My thought would be that WW counts it as half of your water intake because of the 5 calories that it adds to your day. Where as water has none.
  • I don't think that I would count it as waters because even though its low in calories you are putting different chemicals in your system.

    I look at it this way: if you were to eat some sugar-free candy (basically Crystal Light powder in solid form) and drink a glass of water, wouldn't the water still be water? It all still gets mixed together in your stomach, but the water is still water.

    The only things I don't count in my water intake are caffeinated beverages since caffeine is a mild diuretic, so it negates some of the water in the beverage.

    I also don't worry about getting a certain number of servings of water in each day. I drink what can, but if it's *gasp* less than 8 servings, the world will not come to an end (at least, it hasn't yet).

    Are the ingredients the same as the name brands? It's very likely there ARE calories, just less than 5, which they are legally allowed to round down to 0 on the label. This is how it works with Splenda--Splenda DOES have calories, but since it's only like 4 calories per 2 teaspoons, they can say 0 on the label.
  • I don't count it, but I drink a TON of regular water. But I don't see anything wrong with counting it.
  • I second the walmart brand!!! Mmmmmm--- the fruit punch is JUST like kool-aid (even my "anti-diet food family" agrees!)

    I just try to limit my intake, personally--- but then again, I normally drink water and think of the sweet water drinks as a treat.
  • I always count it, and yes the Walmart brand is fantastic! I also love the fruit punch, and I love CL lemonade! Either way you look at it, it is way healthier than pop! I have not had any pop for a month! And I used to drink 2-4 a day! Yikes!
  • I know people have done studies on this kind of thing you might want to check it out. I personally don't believe in the whole diet, low cal, low fat deal. I think it actually makes you gain weight. As i was growing up my mother was all about the fat free, and the low cal and what not, and i've been chubby all my life while everyone else was eating normal and remained normal. I think that because it's low cal we think we can eat/drink more, but he fact is you still have the chemicals entering you body which is something to think about! Maybe start mixing it half strength....i try and stick to only water it keeps my options down which keeps me from...oh one more won't hurt...which packs on the pounds.
