up 1 lbs

  • I went out for dinner for the first time since I started i did log and walked
I did not think I went over my cals but this morning i was up 1 lbs so upsetting I did have sushi so it could be because of the soy

  • I would guess that is the salt. You're probably holding some extra water weight because the sushi has a lot of salt. I would think by tomorrow you will be back down.
  • Hi Jill - there are so many reasons your weight could fluctuate by a couple of pounds -all of them related to water retention. I would not worry about the 1lb - for me the weight has to stick for a week before I consider it real. I have bounced up 2lbs before when I was doing everthing right and then a week later I will be down the 2lbs plus 1 more. Sometimes the Diet Gods have a mind of their own! Just stay on plan.

  • My suggestions--don't weigh yourself the day after eating abnormally! Don't weigh yourself every day (I wouldn't do it more than once a week) if you can't handle seeing normal fluctuations.
  • thanks all I just needed to hear it I know not to weigh every day im just not able to yet Im working on it

  • Here is why it's not a gain of 1 pound of fat. You would have had to eat 3500 calories extra the day before, and that is way, way more sushi than anyone would care to eat!

  • Normally I wouldn't correct our wise Jay but actually, you would have had to eat 3500 extra calories two or three days before the gain showed up on the scale. It takes the body a little while to turn excess calories into fat. If you eat a bigger dinner than usual and it shows up on the scale in the morning, it is guaranteed water retention: your body can't make fat that fast.

But fluctuations are completely normal. If you can accept the fluctuations without trauma, daily weighing is fine (and informative). If you can't, stick to weighing once a week.
