How many people started this journey on a "milestone" date?

  • I started the day after my birthday. I just wondered if anyone else got jump-started by a milestone date.
  • You know, Laurie, I never consciously though about it, but I started a couple of weeks before my birthday. Betcha that looming milestone prodded me into getting serious about it before I got any older!
  • I started two days after my birthday too. I wanted to start before but my wonderful co-workers had already planned 2 birthday lunches for me. We really like to eat at our office, hence the weight issue to begin with.
  • I started shortly after my birthday also!
  • Wow, seems like lots of you started close to your birthday's. My birthday was exactly the four month mark since beginning my journey. Oh, but I just started. I saw my starting weight on the scale, became very nervous and just started.
  • For me, it was right after the summer. Labor day in fact. I had just had yet yet another miserable summer due to my weight. It was time.

Although, it actually is my husband's birthday. But that was just a coincidence. Everytime someone talks to him about my weightloss, he always says, "It was her birthday present to me." I'm glad he thinks so .
  • Oh, Robin that sounds like me... I had such a horrible, hot, nasty summer and I couldn't find a thing to wear and it was so miserable hauling these extra 130 pounds around during these 100 degree, 90% humidity days. I finally bought a spinning dial scale during August because I wanted to know where I was.... it was around the first of September that I got on the scale and realized that I spun the dial around SO FAR that I could actually see the ZERO back in the window again. I sat down, had a good cry, then purged my kitchen of temptation and sat down to write out some menus. I did a lot of research, found my support group, and here I go.
  • I started at New Years....I know, not very original!
We spent the evening with another couple, and we each made a New Year's resolution, wrote it on a piece of paper, and put them into a vase in my china cabinet....to be opened when we get together this New years eve. My resolution is to loose 60 lbs. 20 more to go!!
  • I gave up on significante dates after the 40th try LOL, i just committed on a wednesday i think? the fear of my clothes for fall/winter not fitting gave me the jumpstart!
  • Marseille -- boy I know how that feels with the dial scales. That is why I have a digital scale! Plus it's just easier for me to figure out what I actually weigh because the dial ones have a tendency to be "off" (i.e. 0 lbs actually shows up as 10lbs, etc).

As for me, no milestone, just tired of getting fatter, tired of the way I feel about myself, tired of how people treated me, tired of eating too much food and then feeling terrible about it, and then doing the same thing the next day. TIRED of it all.
  • I started right after a Doctor's appointment. No milestone..just an old fashioned kick in the pants!
  • This was my New Year's resolution.....to lose weight. I've succeeded!
  • I started after my 40th birthday party - technically, two months before the actual birthday (part of the key to surprising me - and boy was I!). Looking at a photo album my mother put together for me really made me realize a few things.
  • Rachel! I just got back from running, and I was thinking about you. I just recently made it a goal to run more regularly, and I kept thinking about that contest that you had won. I am still amazed at that kind of dedication. I haven't seen you post for a little while, and I was thinking that you had to be pretty close to goal if you weren't there already. Looks like you've got one pound to go. Congrats! That's incredible!
  • I started to exercise after I hit 49 this year, then I said what the **** I might as well lose the weight too while I'm at it. I have no desire to be 50, totally out of shape and fat next year that would be too unbearable (Triple whammy...no thanks) LOL
