My Lemon/Lime Soda Recipe (5 calories)

  • This soda is delicious and a lifesaver! I drink it when I am having a sugar or dessert craving (but have used up all my calories for the day!) and it really takes the edge off.

    SASSYGIRL'S HOMEMADE 100% NATURAL, 5-CALORIE LEMON-LIME SODA
    Seltzer
1 large lemon or 2 limes (or one of each!)
    Powdered Stevia
    Ice

Fill a large glass about 2/3 full with seltzer. Make sure lemon or limes are at room temperature (if they were in the refrigerator, nuke them for about 8 seconds each). Roll the lemon or limes on the countertop, pressing with your palms as you roll to soften them (they will release more juice this way). Slice into quarters and squeeze the juice into the glass of seltzer, straining the seeds in your palm.

Stir in Stevia to taste, add ice and enjoy! This entire recipe has only 5 calories!
  • You know your lemons!
Thanks, Sassygirl, you know your lemons..and limes.....and how to make them "give it up"...not to mention Stevia!
  • I am going to definetly try this recipe. It sounds like it is going to be really good.
  • This is totally nit-picky, I know... but I have checked calorie counts for lemons and limes and most sites indicate that the juice of 1 lemon is around 12 calories and the juice for 1 lime is about 10. So if you use 1 of each, it would be closer to 20-22 calories. I know, I know, whats 17 calories, but I try to be as accurate as possible with my counts!
  • My calorie book says the juice of a whole lime is about 5 calories.????
  • This recipe sounds wonderful. On the plan I'm following I don't count things like lemons, limes, etc. So this is a "freebie" for me. Thanks for sharing. Sounds so refreshing on a hot day!
  • The calorie difference might be between the small round limes (golf balls) and regular sized lemons (tennis balls). Not enough calories to make a difference for me.

Lemons aren't what gets me into trouble....it's all kindsa other stuff. Thanks for the recipe!! More ways to enjoy drinking your water is a good thing.
  • You're quite welcome. The best thing about this homemade soda is that it takes the edge off a sweet tooth and can save tons of calories if you reach for this instead of a hot fudge sundae!
