Cool on-line tool for walkers/joggers

  • Ever wonder how far you've walked, jogged, wogged, etc.? I stumbled across this cool new on-line tool. It's part of the google family of map products:

    www.mapmywalk.com

(You can also search on "google pedometer" and get there via about.com.)

You can trace out a route (click at every turn, else your route might cut through someone's house) and get it's total distance and elevation change. You can save your routes as part of a training journal, unless you're the paranoid type. You can even map in stretch, workout, and potty breaks, although I didn't try these features.

Speaking of which, I'm overdue for a wog.

  • I've seen this before but never looked at it in depth. Unfortunately it doesn't show walking paths but only streets. Now if they added walking paths, I'd be amazed I did a 4 mile walk/hike today and was curious if I could use this but no it stops at the street where I started.
  • Very cool!! Thanks for sharing...
  • Nelie: If you live in an area that google satellite covers, I think you can click on "hybrid" view to see trails as well as streets. I can't check for sure, though, because I don't live in an area with coverage.
  • Ahh I looked but it would show stuff that didn't have tree coverage. It might work for some of my other walks which I can kind of see where my path goes despite going into the trees.
